Tossing Salt - Worldwide News

Doug Maynard
Greetings and salutations, my Peeps. Doug here back again with a brand new edition of "Tossing Salt". I've just gotten a couple of subjects on my mind and feel like writing so that means you get a fresh, new column. Wow! Christmas must be coming early this year. This is actually more of a "Six Minutes" column idea than "TSWWN" column fodder, but when I do several columns under different headings, all it does is confuse people, myself included. So we'll stick with the main title and be happy. And now, enough of my rambling. Let's do this...
Happy Birthday to my good friend and brother of the soul, Chris Boone. Love ya, dude!
WWE Legend's House...
One of the shows already announced for the upcoming WWE Network is a show called "WWE Legend's House", which is a WWE based version of "Real World" meets "Surreal Life" meets "Big Brother". It's also an idea that I've spoken of in my Tossing Salt - Worldwide News columns for well over the past six years as what I thought would be a good way for the WWE to expand into reality TV. And essentially what we'll be seeing is a handful of former wrestlers placed together in a house to live together for a period of time and let the fun and games begin.
So far, no names have been announced for this project although I've heard rumors from a couple of sources that The Iron Sheik will be one of the participants. This makes sense since the former WWE Champion has a reputation for being a bit outspoken and.... how do I say this nicely? Crazy as hell! He's a natural fit for a role like this and I hope he makes the cut. The only thing I can see that might hinder his presence is the fact that he recently had surgery on his ankles and has trouble getting around. And there's an alleged drug habit that might make the WWE a bit squeamish to use him as well. So who knows for sure if he'll be there. I'm sure he's on the short list of possible participants.
What I want to do here is just speculate as to who the rest of the names in the "WWE Legend's House" will be. I would assume, if they're using shows like "The Real World" as a model, they'd be looking for between seven and nine people of both genders, so that's the guidelines I'll use as well. So what I'm going to do is list who, if I was in charge of casting for this show, I would try to recruit for the show to make it as eclectic a mix and as entertaining as possible. Doesn't that sound like fun? Here's who I'd like to see.
The Iron Sheik: He's already been rumored and I understand why. The man is totally unpredictable and a true "loose cannon" in every sense of the word. He doesn't hesitate to say exactly what he thinks at any given moment and not always will it be the same opinion he had just moments before. He likes to have fun and to hell with the consequences. Iron Sheik is one of those persons who are made for reality TV because when he's around, you can't help but watch. I hope that the rumors are true and his health allows him to participate because this man is almost certainly a must-have for this project.
Mae Young: Like the Sheik, she is also pretty much a must-have for this project. Mae is in her late 80's in age, but she's got more energy and spunk than most people fifty years her junior. She's unpredictable and willing to do almost anything. With Mae, you cringe when you see her because there is no way to know in advance what may or may not happen, but you know it's going to something worth seeing. She's an amazing woman with a history behind her that is second to none. She can even call legends like Harley Race and Ric Flair "kid" and keep a straight face while doing so. Just imagine the stories this woman can tell. Medical issues may prevent her from being a part of this project, but if she's available and willing, the WWE would be crazy to not include her.
Greg "The Hammer" Valentine: Another true legend and old timer, WWE Hall of Famer Greg Valentine is one of the true icons of the squared circle. He's wrestled for over forty-years and still shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. A project like this would be a great opportunity for Valentine to show the other side of his personality. Greg is slow and methodical in the ring and he's no-nonsense and kind of boring in his promos, but I've met Valentine in person (even shared a few beers with him) and he's actually quite a personable and funny guy. The man has a great personality and some great stories and could really emerge from something like this as the break-out star of the show. It'd also be fun to see Valentine interact with some of the other wrestling personalities. He'd be a good choice and fun to watch.
Candice Michelle: We can't have all Hall of Famers and legends. There needs to be a mix of younger talents and even former talents who had their moment in the sun and then moved on to other careers or in other directions and Candice Michelle would be a perfect example for this role. She was one of the top Divas for the WWE until she was sidelined by injuries and after that, she was never quite up to par again and eventually left the WWE to continue her career as a "GoDaddy.com" girl. But she still has just enough name recognition to generate some interest. She's a personable character and rather easy on the eyes as well. Bring her in and let's see what Candice can bring to the table. She's not a "big name", but she'd be fun and a good add to the mix.
Lex Luger: Lex has such a reputation as a wild man meets major prick from his wrestling days and now he's found religion, cleaned his life up and is supposedly a totally different person. His story is a fascinating one and seeing Luger attempting to interact with these ghosts from his past would make for some interesting and compelling television. Lex hasn't really been any part of the wrestling scene for quite a while and hasn't been around the business very much. Can he handle it? Can the others handle him? I'd love to be able to watch and find out.
Alicia Fox: There needs to be at least one (preferably two) current WWE Superstar in the mix to prevent this show from looking like WWE meets the Retirement Home. Alicia is sexy and hot and never really gets a chance to show her personality too often on our televisions, so why not write her off TV for a few weeks and let her go move in with the Legends? It would help draw in some of the current WWE fans to watch the show and also give the fans a chance to see and learn more about Alicia and just exactly what makes this Diva tick.
Drew McIntyre: Just like I said about Alicia Fox, the WWE needs to put a couple of current WWE Superstars into the mix to give the newer, younger fans a reason to tune in. Why not Drew McIntyre? He's been in the WWE dog house for a while and this is a great way for him to get back into the WWE's good graces, as well as allow him to show another side of his personality and character that we have yet to see. It's not like the WWE is doing anything with Drew in the storylines or television, so he may as well earn his keep with the company and what better way than hanging out with a bunch of WWE legends?
Lisa "Ivory" Moretti: A former WWE Diva who was part of the "Attitude Era" and still occasionally wrestles around the country, with an outgoing, larger than life personality. And she's HOT!! And if I ever decided to go straight, this is the woman I would want to be with. She is just that amazing a legend and talent. Use her and I'll definitely watch. I want my Ivory!! 'Nuff said!
So there you go. If I was in charge of casting for the first season of "WWE Legend's House", those are the people that I would choose to be the stars of the show and house residents. I'd have other WWE Legend's such as Roddy Piper, Steve Austin, Sgt. Slaughter and John Cena make appearances and do cameos during the run of the show as well and I strongly suspect that the WWE will do just that.
And now, here's my question for all the people who read this column. If you were in charge of casting for the "WWE Legend's House" and could pick eight superstars (four men - four women) to be the cast of this upcoming television travesty, who would you pick to round out the cast and make for a must see show? Send me your choices at Doug28352@yahoo.com and tell me. Inquiring minds want to know.
And as for the other topic I wanted to discuss, never mind. I've changed my mind. I'm going to end this right here and now. So thank you for reading. Questions and comments can be sent to the e-mail addy above. And be on the look out for a new column, with myself and a couple of friends, called "Wrestling Fact or Fiction", which will be making it's official debut early next week. It's going to be a lot of fun so keep your eyes open and watch for it.
I'm Doug and I'm out of here for now. "Dat is all 'de people need to know!".

Political Fact Or Fiction

Doug Maynard
I've done this a couple of times for the "King of Sports", professional wrestling, and now it's time to take this to the next level and the world of politics. How this works is pretty simple. I'm given a statement or question and simply answer whether I feel that it is either "fact" or "fiction" and explain why. It's so simple, even a caveman or Congressman can do it. And now I'm gonna "do it" as well. Lets rock...
Mitt Romney will be the 2012 Republican Nominee for President?
FICTION: Mitt's been running for this office for six years and he can't generate over twenty-five percent support in the polls and that has to be a major sign of his chances to win his party's nomination. The Republican Right is just are not getting behind Mitt. They're suspicious of his Morman faith, of his reputation as a flip-flopper and of course, Romneycare, the health plan that Romney developed that was the predecessor for Obamacare. Mitt hasn't made any major gaffes or had any major scandals attached to his name as of yet, but he's just coasting along and rather than causing excitement and energy, he's just boring, methodical and bleh! Romney has plenty of money and won't be fading away any time soon, but unless there are some big screw-ups by his opponents (mainly Newt), Romney is dropping in the polls and when all is said and done, he'll be just a footnote in our political history.
Herman Cain was correct to suspend his Presidential Campaign?
FACT: Herman Cain was in over his head from Day 1 and as the debates and campaigns progressed, it just became more and more obvious that Herman Cain was all sizzle, but very little actual substance. When the sexual harassment charages started to pop up, Cain should have dropped out right then and ended the drama and suffering we were all forced to endure for several more weeks. And when the story of this long affair came out, Cain just looked like an idiot in his pitiful excuses and arguments. He didn't belong in this race to begin with and he should have dropped out long ago. Better late than never, I guess.
Having Donald Trump moderate the GOP Debate on 12/28 is a good idea?
FICTION: Who ever had this bright idea needs to be slapped around for a while and placed in a room with Michele Bachmann's whiney ass for several days. While I will admit here that I am a fan of Trump's show, Celebrity Apprentice, he is not someone who should be involved in the Republican debates or politics in general. He's a joke and a reality show star, so how does it make the men and woman running for the position of the most powerful person in the world look when they're forced to play second potato to Trump? They look like idiots. So far, Ron Paul and Jon Huntsman have both announced that they're not planning to attend this debate and if the other candidiates are smart, they'll do the same. At least put someone credible with Trump as a co-moderator to help allievate some of the stupidity.
President Obama is correct to blame Congress for the problems in the U.S. Economy?
FICTION: This annoys me because no matter how much or little Congress has accomplished, it's on President Obama's watch and thus, it's his responsibility. If nothing is getting accomplished, an argument can be made that since the President is the man in charge, he should be leading the way and making sure that things happen. Of course, the argument then is that The Republicans won't work with the President and fight him on every issue. Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but for the first two years of this President's term in office, the Democrats (his party) controlled both the House of Representatives and The Senate. The President and his party controlled Congress and could do anything they wanted and pass any bills they desired and there was little that the Republican's could do about it. But they (the President and the Democratic controlled Congress) did nothing to prevent the problems that everyone else saw coming. All they did was shove Obamacare down our throats and run up the costs of Government and the deficit by trillions of dollars. Now the President is screaming that he can't do anything because the Republican's are fighting him. He didn't do anything when he had total control and in his mind, that was okay. But now that he's trying for re-election and another term as President, he's whining and crying about how Congress keeps fighting him. The bottom line for me is this. If the President's party controls the White House and also controls the U.S. Senate, that's 2/3 of the power, which if I remember my math correctly, would mean they have more power than the Republican's, who only control the House of Representatives (and have only had control for just over a year). So if they can't get anything done, they only need to blame themselves. They've got the power and what does or doesn't get accomplished (and the mess we're in now), blame the ones in charge and that's the President and his party.
Former Speaker Newt Gingrich will be the 2012 GOP Nominee for President?
FACT: Newt has taken the lead in all of the recent polls and unlike the other former front-runners, he's not an enigma or mystery to the American People. Newt has been a face in American politics for well over three decades and there isn't any part of his life, good or bad, that isn't already out there for the public to know about. And he's still leading the polls and gaining more support daily. Even his worst enemies will admit that Newt is extremely smart and is a great debater. He's not so far to the right that he's scares off the Independents and Liberals like some of his opponents will. He's a man who knows what to say and when to say it and if posible, can out-Washington President Obama on politics and winning elections. I honestly can't see anyone left in the Republican field who can challenge him and if he picks a good running mate for the general election, even the Republican's who think he's a bit too lefty or shifty will come around. The Nomination is his to win or lose and unless he totally screws up with a major melt-down or else gets caught in a compromising position with Nancy Pelosi, I have no doubt that he'll end up winning and challenging Obama in the Presidential Election.
Vice President Joe Biden will be replaced by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as President Obama's running mate in the 2012 election?
FICTION: It's a good idea and could work to help Obama hold on to his job next November, but I don't think it will happen. Despite how they appear in public together, I have no doubt in my mind that Hillary and Bill Clinton both still have some hard feelings about Barack Obama left over from the 2008 election. Obviously, putting Hillary on the ticket would allow Barack a second chance with the Democratic base, most of whom seem to have suffered "Buyer's Regret" over the past year or so and wish they had elected Hillary in the first place. Biden doesn't help the ticket and hurts it more often than not with his gaffes and comments, but not even Hillary is strong enough to make the voters overlook the bad governing and policies of the Obama administration and even if she joined the ticket, I don't think she'd be enough to pull Obama over the victory line in November. He'll just keep what he has and if (when) the President loses in November, he'll have a ready made candidate in Joe Biden who he can throw under the bus and blame it on.
And there you go. That's enough for now. It's getting late and it's time to go to bed. So thanks for reading and have a great night. Comments and thoughts are welcome.

Tossing Salt presents...
Wrestling Fact Or Fiction
December 7, 2011
Doug Maynard
This was so much fun a few days ago that I've decided to do it again. The way this works is that I have a number of topics, wrestling related of course, and I just go down the list with each topic and state if I agree with the statement (fact) or disagree (fiction) and explain why. It's simple, to the point and a great way to adress a number of topics in a short amount of time.
This week, I'll be doing another solo edition, but eventually, I'd like to do this at least once a week, and have at least one other, but possibly even two or three other people also playing along and giving their thoughts and comments on numerous wrestling topics. So if you'd like to be a part of this column, just let me know and we can do it. Either contact me here on the blog or else at my e-mail at Doug28352@yahoo.com. Or just come to my Facebook and drop me a message. This is okay to do alone, but with one or two others pitching it and offering opinions, it could be just like the Miz thinks he is... AWESOME! (That guy is so delusional... lol) So hit me up, Peeps! And let's do this...
Triple H versus Kevin Nash in a Ladder Match at TLC will be a good match?
FICTION: If it was a street fight, there's a slight chance that it could be watchable, but a ladder match involving Kevin Nash, he of the multiple knee surgeries, is not going to be a pretty sight. Kevin can barely walk half the time and he's slow and lumbering and the WWE has decided to involve him in a match that involves scaling a ladder to reach a sledge hammer? What the hell are they thinking? Triple H is a talented performer and one of the best of today's generation, but he's going to have his work cut out for him with this match. Hunter hasn't wrestled a regular schedule in quite a while and has his own ring rust to worry about, but the WWE expects him to carry Nash through a ladder match as well? Triple H is good, but even he's not that good. This match is going to blow major chunks if we're lucky. Otherwise, it's really going to be bad.
Zack Ryder Will Benefit From His Association With John Cena?
FICTION: Being associated with John Cena is a double-edged sword. It helps Ryder with the WWE management that Cena (and CM Punk and Steve Austin) have all come out in support of Ryder and are putting their considerable muscle behind his push, but I can't see how being Cena's sidekick will help him with fan support. Cena is a polarizing figure with the WWE Universe and just as many people hate him as like him. Ryder, for the most part, is looked upon favorably by the fans, due to his own outgoing personality and his "Long Island Iced Z" show on YouTube, but if his character starts pandering too much to Cena on TV, the fans can and will quickly turn on him as well. Wrestling fans are a fickle bunch and it'd be better for the long run of Ryder and his character if he's shown to be more of his own man instead of a Cena flunkie or stooge.
You will watch the upcoming movie, "Crossface", about Chris Benoit when it comes out?
FACT: I think it's going to be a disgusting movie and really drag wrestling through the mud once more, opening up old wounds and creativing a lot of negativity for those of us who are wrestling fans, as well as the world of pro wrestling itself. Just when the memories of Benoit and the insanity of his actions that final weekend are beginning to fade, this movie will bring it all right back to the forefront of our minds again. And it's going to be bad. And it's going to hurt. BUT if the chance comes to see it, I probably will. Maybe it's just the masochistic streak in me or maybe it's the morbid fascination, similar to when you drive by a car wreck and slow down to survey the damage and look to see if anyone has been hurt. I will not go see it in the movie theatre or pay to see it, but if the chance arises to watch this movie for free, I'll kick myself in the ass for doing so, but I'll still watch it anyhow.
John Morrison and Melina will be a good fit for TNA Impact Wrestling?
FICTION: John Morrison will do fine in TNA. He's a good wrestler and already knows the majority of the TNA talents. Being a former WWE star, he'll be moved quickly into the X-Division, be pushed to the moon at first and then find a nice, comfortable place in the TNA upper mid-card. But then we have Melina. If she decides to be respectful and place nice with the other women of TNA, she can be a nice addition to the TNA Knockouts Division. But what are the chances of her minding her P's and Q's and being a positive influence? Slim and not likely. Melina is one of those people who like to stir the pot and create drama. The powers that be at TNA might put up with it for a while, but if she acts like she did the last couple of years in the WWE and alienates everyone, she'll be driven out soon enough and Morrison will be gone right along with her.
You're looking forward to the WWE Network next year?
FACT: A chance to see the old wrestling that I grew up on from the Mid-Atlantic region, Georgia and Florida, not to mention the AWA and WCW all over again? How can I not be looking forward to that? For a die-hard fan like me, an all-wrestling network is a dream come true and I'm just hoping that DirectTV decides to carry this channel. They can dump that Oprah crap and actually show something good for a change. And if DirectTV doesn't carry the WWE network, it might just be time to change cable service providers to find someone who does.
Daniel Bryan should wait until Wrestlemania 28 to cash in the Money In The Bank briefcase?
FACT: Keep teasing Daniel Bryan cashing in the MITB contract and being a thorn in Mark Henry's side, proving that he belongs in the main events, but I don't think that Bryan should actually cash in the contract until Wrestlemania. Bryan is the great "ultimate underdog" wrestler and if they keep him coming just so close but never winning, the WWE can really generate interest in this match and make the fans want to see Bryan succeed and win that World Championship. It worked for Tommy Dreamer and Raven in ECW and their feud lasted several years before the payoff with Dreamer finally defeating Raven. This is like a modern day version of that feud in my eyes and I want to see Bryan finally grab that golden ring and capture the title and Wrestlemania 28 is the best place for this to happen. And just picture having Daneil Bryan and CM Punk as the World and WWE Champions at the same time. It'd be another Benoit - Guerrero moment and that's exactly what I want to see.
John Cena will turn heel before Wrestlemania?
FICTION: He's stay just as he is - the ultimate tweener.
Brodus Clay will re-debut on RAW before the end of the year?
FICTION: December is essentially a slow month for the WWE. Ratings are down and house-show attendence is down and nothing ever happens, so why waste the debut of Clay during the time when no one is watching anyhow? I know the Tables, Ladders and Chairs (oh my) PPV is coming up and I guess that they could debut Clay there, but no one is going to be buying that show this close to Christmas and it'd be a wasted moment. Best to wait until right before the Royal Rumble, when the ratings pick up and people are starting to tune in for the Road To Wrestlemania where Brodus Clay can make a major impact with his debut rather than just throw it out there when nobody will notice.
You're looking forward to the return of Kane?
FACT: Kane is a good worker and if the recent vignettes are any indication, he'll be bringing the mask back and we'll have vintage Kane terrorizing people and running amuck on our airways. The liklihood of The Undertaker making it back to the WWE ring before Wrestlemania 28 seems less and less of a possibility as time passes, so if we can't have the "Dead Man", I think his little brother would make an acceptable substitute.
The "It Begins" video is about Chris Jericho?
FICTION: Jericho keeps denying it, but all reports and indications, as well as Jericho's usual M.O. say that this video preview of a prominent return on January 2, 2012 will be none other than the "Ayatollah of Rock & Rolla" himself, Chris Jericho. It's so much his style and method that I don't think it will be him. I have no doubts in my mind that Jericho will return to the WWE early in 2012 and position himself in a match for Wrestlemania, possibly against CM Punk. But this whole "It Begins" thing is just so blatantly Jericho that I feel a major swerve coming on. If everyone is expecting to see Chris Jericho on January 2nd, I think we'll get maybe Batista or Carlito or even Goldust instead. Carlito has been making noise about wanting to come back and Goldust has been petitioning for a match against Cody Rhodes at Wrestlemania so they are possibilities. And I just think seeing Batista would be cool since he left to become an actor and well, that doesn't seem to be working out too well for him, does it. So we'll have this video playing until January 2nd and everyone will want Jericho, but end up with someone else. And THEN, Jericho arrives and the WWE goes crazy. Now that is how it should be done. 'Nuff said!

'Nuff said!

Self Identity Survey - December 5, 2011
Self Identity Survey
Name: My birth name is "Douglas" (or "Doug" for short), but you may just call me "Sir!"
Age: Too damn old to do most of the things that I want to do, but young enough to give it a shot anyhow.
Race: I am not now nor will I be running in any races, political, speed, car or otherwise. I'm a writer, damn it - not a racer. Ummm... Ooops! I misread the question - I'm caucasian with mutt tendencies.
Gender: All man and don't you forget it... lol. " _ "
Normal Questions:
Define normal using approximately ten words. Bland, vanilla, status-quo and marching to beat of same drummer.
Would you frame someone else if your friend committed murder? Nope - there would be more than enough to deal with in taking care of the friends' problems without instigating a frame-up and the activities involved with that. No need to ruin anyone else's life just to cover up for my friend's screw up.
When is killing justified? If it's self-defense or a "kill or be killed" situation - that's the only time I can see justification.
What do you like most about yourself? I have a quirky mind and a fair singing voice - those are good traits, right?
What was or is your favorite subject in school? Well, it wasn't "creative writing" - I flunked the heck out of that (go figure) - I think it was either history (U.S. History was and is very interesting) or the Home Ec. related classes (Home Ec, Home Furnishing Services) - I was AWESOME!!
What do you want to do for a career? I'd love to be paid for being a writer. Writing (booking) wrestling events and shows would be incredible too. Anything I can do that involves using my imagination and creativity is something I could and would be interested in. As for a job that "pays the bills", working in retail seems to be where I'm most at ease.
Do you support the war in Iraq? I understand the reasons for the war (get rid of Saddam), but it's gone on too long. It's time to bring the troops home and end both this wat and the war in Afghanistan.
Are you religious? I believe in a higher power and pray regularly, but I do not feel comfortable with organized religion of any particular denomination. Most groups have some good points, but also have negatives and hypocrisy as well that I can not support. Better to read my bible and believe what I feel is right than jump in with any group that invites me and pretend to agree with what I feel is not right.
Do you read, watch or listen to the news often? I read at least two newspapers (front to back) a day, plus regularly watch both Fox News AND MSNBC to enjoy the differing agendas and spin on each news item. I also read news items on the internet. Yes, I am a news junkie.
Is older always wiser? Nope - age has nothing to do with wisdom.
Is Barack Obama a good president? In my opinion, he is arguably the worst president we've had in the past century. He's a great salesman who promised everything to everyone to get elected, but has had little success in following through with those promises. He's a campaigner and NOT a leader and his pitiful attempts at running our country have caused far more problems than one would have thought possible.
If not, does he deserve to be assassinated? No - I think he thinks that he's doing well. He's majorly incompetent, but that's not a punishable by death offense. Let's just vote him out of office so he can go away and become the modern day Jimmy Carter, as he seems destined to be.
Who cares about the rainforest, right? While it's tragic what is happening with the rain forests, there are other matters that should take priority and precedence and be dealt with first.
Are you going to marry your favorite celebrity? I'm a gay man in North Carolina - I am NOT going to be marrying anyone unless there are many major changes over the next few years.
Do you wish you were a celebrity? I am a celebrity of sorts - I am the author of "Pro Wrestling's Most Eclectic Column Since 2003" and I do have a small following of a sort. And I'm just one good blog or story away from being truly famous. (And yes, I am delusional as well).
Is body structure a good indicator of personality? Not in my opinion- people have little control over different aspects of their body and it just serves as the book-cover,with no true indication of what lies inside (the personality & character).
Is choice of clothing a good indicator of personality? To a degree, yes - unless it's a uniform due to work or school, most people tend to dress in the style that they feel most comfortable and relaxed and the way they dress and act when relaxed generally tends to be a strong indication of the way they think and act.
Is choice of friends a good indicator of personality? For most people, yes.... what's the old cliche? "Birds of a feather?"... lol.
Are more and more technological advances good for mankind? In some ways, yes, but I personally despise the "advances" in games and toys (such as X-Box and Playstation) - those games kill imagination and are destroying the minds of our children and young people.
Between male and female, which is the weaker gender? Men - compared to most women, men are pussies.... lol.
Do you believe in karma or predestiny? Everything happens for a reason. 'Nuff said!!
Are you vegetarian? Nope! I love to eat meat!
Do you get along with your family? I don't "not get along" with the majority of my "blood" family, but I don't go out of my way to be around most of them either. With the exception of our blood, I just don't really see much that I have in common with them. We are all friendly and if they need something that I can provide, I'll do what I can, but for the most part, I can take them or leave them and prefer to leave them.
When you discover that you are angry, what do you do to calm yourself? I write, I go walking, I turn up the music to unimaginable levels and let the sounds blast away my anger, etc. I do many things - it just depends upon the circumstances and what I feel inclined to do at the time.
When you are sad, what do you do to make yourself feel better? Same as above - I generally try to write or go walking or just keep busy doing something and usually that works. And if it's really bad (major depression - which I deal with quite frequently as well), I'll just either go walking in the woods or go to bed and try to "sleep" it all out.
Do you need a significant other in your life? I don't need anyone but myself - I do have someone that I hope will never leave my life and he completes me in so many ways - I would be miserable and just a shell if he was out of my life and that's just the truth. But I don't need him. I can survive and get by on my own - I just don't want to.
Have you ever truly loved? Not until I decided to let down my walls and accept Cal into my life - I decided to give love a chance and I've no regrets about it.
Is it okay for you to show weakness? Yes - a person can't be superman all the time.
Is revenge always the answer when you are wronged? Nope - revenge is never the answer - justice is.
Is revenge ever the answer? Read my previous answer.
Is everyone like an open book to you? For the most part, yes - I see and notice things that most don't - it's all about paying attention and keeping an open mind.
Do you keep your mouth shut in public for fear of sounding stupid? At times, yes - I have issues with my self-confidence and being sociable.
Does your IQ mean much? Not really - I'm a smart guy in many ways and in other ways, I'm clueless. An IQ is just a number, but nothing beats practical common sense and experience combined with an open mind and a desire to learn.
I grant you three wishes. Three wishes, right at this moment, would be to have Cal come home with all his problems & baggage behind him to be with me here where he belongs, a job where I can be happy and make decent money and the end of my problems involving driving. Yeah, I'm being greedy today, but it's been a bad day and I'm in the middle of one of my blue-moods so bear with it.
This or That...
Passiveness or aggression? Both have their place depending upon the situation, but I tend to be more of the passive, submissive type of guy. I can be agressive at times if I need to, but I prefer to coast along and keep the peace.
Clinginess or detachment? For me, detachment. I have a bad habit of keeping up that wall and never letting people get too close.
Flattery or honesty? Honesty, but there is no need to be insulting while delivering it. Even the worst piece of truth isn't quite as bad when accompanied by a honest piece of flattery..
Passion or reason? Listen to the brain or the heart? Listening to the brain is generally the best option, but sometimes, those moments of passion can be over-powerig and common sense goes out the door. Both have their places and times to be listened to.
Liberal or conservative? On social issues, I am very liberal, while on economic and other matters, I lean to the right and the concervative side of things. I'm neither conservative (Republican) or liberal (Democrat) - I'm just me...
To listen or to talk? I'm a great listener, but I don't like to talk. It's about you - not me.
To discriminate or to be hurt? There is never a reason for discrimination - better to be hurt than to hurt others because of ignorance and stupidity like discrimination.
Friends or lovers? I like to think that most of my friends, at least the sexy male ones, can be both. If I have to chose, I would rather have a good friend than a piece of ass, but I'm a firm believer of "friends with benefits" - part of being friends is helping each other with our needs and bonding and what better way to bond than a little ass-grab and fun?
Money or fame? I don't like being the center of attention, but I like money so show me the money.
Power or freedom? Freedom
Pain or numbness? I live every day of my life in pain so numbness would be a nice change of pace.
Night or day? Night (I don't do daylight)
Marilyn Manson or Justin Timberlake? Justin Timberlake - Marilyn is an sorry-ass ripoff of Alice Cooper and worthless piece of crap.
Pink or Evanescence? Pink - she's awesome!
Nine Inch Nails or Blink 182? Nine Inch Nails
Bowling for Soup or Tool? No preference for either of these bands - they all sound the same to me.
Kittie or Britney Spears? Britney Spears - just think of all the humorous moments she's given us, plus K-Fed is sexy and she's his ex. So that puts Britney over the top for me.
Ani or Madonna? Madonna (I have to say her - it's in the Gay Man Handbook that Madonna supercedes all... lol)
Malice Mizer or F4? WHO?
Escargot or no? I don't do slugs. Well, I did do Greg and he was nasty like a slug (about as hung as one too), but that was when I was younger and stupid (and drunk - can't forget drunk). But no slugs as an appetizer for me - NEVER!
Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom? Johnny Depp is amazing - I watched "Cry Baby" last night and it was just a good time. He never seems to get older - I think he's a robot... lol.
United States or Canada? I'm American so it would be United States... (unless Obama wins re-election in 2012 - then I might consider moving to Canada)
Felines or canines? Felines - I'm definitely a cat person.
Charlie’s Angels or Kill Bill? I thought both movies were kind of dumb actually. But I did watch "Charlie's Angels" as a kid on TV so it gets the nod.
Chicago or The Hours? No idea here - never seen either and have no desire to see either.
The Lords of the Rings or The Matrices? Lords of the Rings - it was a lot of walking and kind of boring, but those little Hobbits were kind of cute (gay, but cute) and that makes all the difference. Keanu Reeves is a dick!
Summer or winter? Winter
Finding Nemo or Scary Movie 3? Scary Movie (I like funny and stupid)..
Newsweek or Playboy? Newsweek (damn, I'm getting old)
Renee Zellweger or Angelina Jolie? Alyson Hannigan can kick both of their asses!!
Buy CD or burn CD? I'm old fashioned - I still like to buy them.
Name: My birth name is "Douglas" (or "Doug" for short), but you may just call me "Sir!"
Age: Too damn old to do most of the things that I want to do, but young enough to give it a shot anyhow.

Doug Maynard
Before I start talking about wrestling, I have to send a big shout out and congratulations to Scotland High School and the Scotladn High School Football Team, from here in my home-town of Laurinburg, NC, who last night, defeated Porter Ridge High School to capture the NC 4-A Division State Championship. Final score was 42 - 16. Scotland High is the school I graduated from so very long ago and we've always had a good high school football team. But that elusive State Championship has always seemed like just a dream. Well, last night in WInston Salem, NC, that dream came true. After an undefeated season of 15-0, Scotland High School did what they had to do and brought home the gold. Congratulations once more to the stylin' and profilin' coaches and players of SHS for doing such a fantastic job and making all of us who have ever worn the mantle "Fighting Scots" extremely proud. And now, let's talk some professional wrestling...
John Morrison to TNA?
One of the biggest pieces of news making the rounds this week is that former Tough Enough Champion and WWE Superstar John Morrison has been wished well in his future endeavors by Johnny Ace, Vince McMahon and the WWE. This is obviously not a surprise to anyone who's paid the slightest bit of attention over the past year or so. Morrison has been unhappy since the release of his girlfriend, Melina and WWE hasn't really been interested in giving Jo-Mo any kind of push for what seems like forever. It's a mutual parting of the ways and probably the best things for all persons involved.
So what lies ahead for the former "Johnny Nitro"? Well, he'll obviously have to change his name since both of his former stage names, (John Morrison and Johnny Nitro) are WWE-owned and copyrighted, but that shouldn't prove a problem for John Hennigan. His real name isn't that bad. And TNA has already allegedly expressed interest in bringing both Morrison and girlfriend Melina into their Orlando home.
For John, that should probably be a good move. He's a good wrestler with a unique style and would fit well in the TNA X-Division or even the heavyweight division eventually. John's main problem has always been that he's not a good promo guy, but with the WWE dictating every word you speak, it would be hard to find your niche and improve in that area. TNA isn't quite a scripted in that department and use more of a bullet-point promo approach, so there is opportunity for John to get past that minor deficiency and really break through the main event glass ceiling.
The only problem could be Melina who was allegedly a trouble-maker and headache for the locker-room in WWE. If she comes in with a positive attitude and works hard and minds her P's & Q's, she could be a valuable asset to the TNA Knockouts Division. BUT if she comes in with an attitude and behaves as she did in WWE, her presence could be more trouble than she's worth. I expect though that some of the TNA veterans (Tara, ODB, Gail) will make sure that Melina knows her role and sticks to it if indeed TNA does become the new home for her and her man.
From everything I've seen and heard, I feel that TNA could be a major chance for both John Morrison and Melina to make a new and fresh start and really make a huge impact and change for the better. I just hope it works out that way and nothing (or no one) screws it up.
Tyler Reks Next WWE Breakout Star?
Maybe it's just me, but I've been noticing a lot more of this under-rated WWE superstar as of late and I'm starting to think that maybe his time has finally come. This past week, on the live holiday edition of Smackdown, in the Battle Royal, Reks was among the final six men in the ring along with Jinder Mahal, Heath Slater, Sheamus, Hornswoggle & Hunico. Maybe that's not a big deal, but considering that he rarely appears on television at all, to be among the final six is pretty impressive.
And the other thing that stands out is that Reks has created an animated series for YouTube called Midcard Mafia, which has characters similar to (but not supposed to be) his WWE character. Reks, along with Tyson Kidd and Curt Hawkins, provide voices for the cartoon characters. It appears that Reks is taking the initiative and attempting to follow the example set by Zack Ryder in reaching out to fans on his own and building a fanbase with hopes that it leads to bigger and better in the WWE.
I hope this works for him. Reks is a big guy who somewhat reminds me, appearance wise, of the late, great Bruiser Brody. He's got size and presence and he's not a bad worker by any means. Maybe they could stick him with Vickie Guerrero and he could be used as her "enforcer" who helps protect Ziggler and Swagger? Or maybe even a "monster versus monster" feud with Brodus Clay.
Regardless of how the WWE decides to use this man, it's good to see that he's decided to take a chance and get his name and presence out there. Even if WWE officials don't take the bait, it can only increase his name recognition and worth overall. Reks is a good talent and one day, I think he'll be a major player for the company. At least I hope so.
Old Is New Again? Old Stars Return To WWE?
Did the WWE fall into a Hot Tub Time Machine lately? Look at all the old names and former stars popping up as of late. Booker T worked the house shows this past weekend and is penciled in for a feud with Cody Rhodes. Goldust is petitioning the WWE to work against Cody at Wrestlemania and made an appearance this past week on Smackdown, which incidentially was hosted by "Cactus Jack / Mankind" Mick Foley and featured appearances by Roddy Piper and "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes. And we just had The Rock come back and wrestle, plus there's a new DVD about "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. And let's don't forget about Kane, who is due back soon, as well as the Chris Jericho rumors. And least we forget, Kevin Nash?
I remember when WWE used to trash and bash WCW for their over-reliance of older wrestlers, but now it seems that they're falling into the exact same pattern. What's next? Shane Douglas to reunite with Johnny Ace as the new and improved "Dynamic Dudes"? The Red Rooster and the Brooklyn Brawler as the top contenders for the Tag Team Titles? The Shockmaster?
Actually, I'm cool with most of the old-is-new superstars in the WWE since they primarily seem to be used for cameos and not in actual wrestling events. Booker is the exception to this, but I like watching Booker wrestle and if it keeps him away from the announce table, it has to be a good thing. And Kane / Jericho / Goldust are all still talented enough and capable of putting on good matches. Dusty works backstage and Piper / Foley are here for talking and instigating, so no complaints there either. But Kevin Nash? Oh well, they can't all be winners.
WWE Hall of Fame Predictions...
We're a mere five months from the induction ceremony for the Class of 2012 WWE Hall of Fame. Just a few quick names as to who I think will or at least should be inducted this upcoming year. Mil Mascaras has already been confirmed. Along with the "Man Of A Thousand Masks", I'd also include "The Brain Busters" Tully Blancard and Arn Anderson, "Macho Man" Randy Savage & Miss Elizabeth, James Crockett Jr., Bob Backlund, Ivan Koloff, Madusa Miceli, Bob Caudle, and Regis Philbin for the celebrity wing. Those are just my suggestions. As to who the WWE will actually induct, we'll just have to wait and see.
Hornswoggle Talks...
After six years, thanks to a hug and a wish from Santa Claus, not to mention winning a Battle Royal on Smackdown, the one time "Little Bastard" can finally talk normally. No more grunts and groans. And his first words are calling Vickie Guerrero "Grandma"... Funny stuff. But will someone please answer this question for me. Why is Hornswoggle still employed by the WWE? Midget wrestling was cool in the 70's and 80's, but it's too politicially incorrect for today's market. And Horny has gotten kind of chunky over the past year as well. So why is he a "WWE Superstar" when talents like Chris Masters, Kenny Doane, Charlie Haas, Shelton Benjamin, NC's hottest tag team BD Productions, etc. all left on the outside looking in? It doesn't make sense. But then again, neither does Kelly Kelly or Kevin Nash? Maybe Vince just has a thing for little people? Wouldn't surprise me. But congratulations to Horny for gaining the ability to speak. Maybe he can replace Booker at the announce table and feud with Michael Cole now? Come on now, you know you'd like to see that. Admit it!
Soce The Elemental Wizard - Happy Birthday...
I want to send a big shout out and Happy Birthday to the hip-hop spellcaster, the Jewish White Gay MC, the one and only Soce the Elemental Wizard, who celebrated the anniversary of his day of birth yesterday. There are few people on this planet who are more talented and charming than this amazing young man. And he's truly a nice person as well (and a sexy beast too!). I did an interview with Soce a few years ago (back in 2006). Here's the link. Check it out at: http://tsfiction.blogspot.com/2011/02/interview-with-soce-elemental-wizard.html.
I really need to get together with this multi-talented entertainer and see if we can do another interview and play catch-up. Hey Soce, if you're interested, contact me. And Happy Birthday Magic Man. I hope you have a wonderful day and much continued success. You deserve it!
Austin Aries versus Kid Kash (TNA's Hottest Feud)
Both men are accomplished veterans of the squared circle. Both men are both great talkers and great in-ring performers. And both men know how to generate heat with the crowds and get the fans riled up with just a word or gesture. This upcoming feud between Aries, the current TNA X-Division Champion and former ECW / WWE star Kid Kash is going to be good. If I was Kurt Angle, Jeff Jarrett, Bobby Roode, AJ Styles, Jeff Hardy, Hulk Hogan, etc, I'd be very, very worried. Those names may be the "stars" of TNA, but Aries & Kash have the talent and skills to steal the show and become THE TNA feud to watch. It's going to be good. Mark my words!
No More Jackie Moore In TNA?
According to recent reports, TNA has decided not to renew the contract of TNA Knockout / wrestling Icon Jackie Moore aka "Jacquiline". This sucks big time. Even though she admittingly is getting older, Jackie is still one hot mama and more importantly, she knows how to take care of business in that ring. But then again, that might be the problem. Jackie just might be too tough for the other "Knockouts" to handle. Or for most of the male TNA stars to handle either. I guess it would be intimidating to see this tiny woman running around backstage and knowing that she could easily kick your ass.
But regardless of the reasons why, I think this is a big loss for the TNA Knockouts Division and for TNA in general. Maybe WWE will take advantage of TNA's error and allow this buxom bombshell back into their ranks, if not as an active WWE Diva, then perhaps as a trainer or agent. She could really work wonders with the WWE Divas and teach them how to actually wrestle and perform more than three moves. Hell, use her in the Terri Runnels role from a few years ago and work as a backstage interviewer. Even as a referee would be okay since she's done that in the past as well. Jackie has so much to offer a wrestling company and if TNA doesn't want her, then WWE should snap her up. Hell, let Jackie feud with Michael Cole... lol. Nah, she'd really kick his ass and probably hurt him badly. Oops!
Good luck to Jackie Moore in the future. I just hope that we get to see her back on television soon. She deserves it!
Chris Benoit: Movie Star?
From what I understand, a movie is scheduled to begin production in February 2012 about the Chris Benoit murder / suicide. It's called "Crossface" and will be about Benoit and his wrestling career and the descent into madness that led to the murders of Nancy and Daniel Benoit and then suicide by the former WCW / WWE Superstar. Man, we don't need to see this. The whole Benoit incident was probably the worst thing to ever happen to professional wrestling in so many ways. That was the day that the world's greatest sport lost it's innocence and became all to real, at least in my eyes.
Benoit was one of the most talented wrestlers of all time and an icon to so many of us and in one weekend, he snapped and destroyed his legacy, ruined the wrestling business for so many people and more importantly (most importantly), murdered his wife, Nancy Benoit, an icon in her own right, and their son, Daniel. I've only recently gotten to where I can watch Benoit matches again and clips with him in them. And now they want to drag it all up again and rip the scabs off of those old wounds and make us (the wrestling fans) all go through this mess again.
I understand why. It's a fascinating story and pretty compelling. But I don't want to hear about it or see it again. I hope that no one cooperates with the film's producers and this film never gets made. Some things are better left dead and buried and this whole story is one of those things. If the movie does get made, I don't want to see it and I hope that no one else does. The producers are scavengers picking at the bones and hearts of the wrestling fans. Let the wounds heal and please, just let it go.
I guess that's going to do it for me. I had a few more things that I was going to add here, including predictions for what matches we'll probably see at Wrestlemania 28, but I took longer with my rambling than I anticipated and unlike the Rolling Stones, time is not on my side. I've got to go get ready to head out and go see the Laurinburg Christmas Parade with some friends. So I'll close here and tackle Wrestlemania 28 in a future column.

Things You Don't Know About Me Survey - December 1, 2011
Things You Don't Know About Me Survey
What is on your bed right now?
A pile of clothes that needs to be hung up in the closet, several pillows, a couple of books and a box full of cassette tapes that I plan on going through later on tonight and transfering to CD's.
When was the last time you threw up?
It's been quite a while actually - probably a couple of years or so...
What's your favorite word or phrase?
I use "sh*t" a lot, call people "ass-clown's" quite often and tend to shout out the phrase "cheese and crackers" on occasion as well, but my favorite word is "Ubuntu" which means "You complete me"...
Name 3 people who made you smile today?
Tian, Beverly and Cal..
What were you doing at 8 am this morning?
Picking up Tian at her house so we could go work at the Food Bank.
What were you doing 30 minutes ago?
Singing along to my computer's jukebox and the song "Mama I'm A Big Girl Now", from the "Hairspray" soundtrack. I be'ez jamming!!
What is your favorite holiday?
Halloween
Have you ever been to another country?
Nope. I was supposed to go to Japan back in June, 1988 and even still have my passport (complete with entry stamp), but stuff happened just a few weeks before we were scheduled to leave and I couldn't go. I've regretted it ever since.
What is the last thing you said aloud?
"No" - answering a question from the mother-figure.
What is the best ice cream flavor?
My personal favorite is orange sherbert, but I also enjoy vanilla & banana split favor too.
What was the last thing you had to drink?
Diet Pepsi (I'd love to have a real pepsi right now - or a Bud Light)
What are you wearing right now?
Jeans, a purple & black button up shirt and house-shoes.
What was the last thing you ate?
A hot dog with mustard, ketchup and homemade chili piled on top. I love me some big, fat juicy hot dogs... lol
Have you bought any new clothing items this week?
Nope
When was the last time you ran?
I'm middle-aged, fat and have bad knees - I don't "run"...
What's the last sporting event you watched?
I've actually gotten really good about this lately - I watched wrestling (RAW and Smackdown) on Monday and Tuesday nights this past week and I watched several NFL games (GO PANTHERS) this past Sunday. And I was watching Nascar every week up until last weekend when Tony Stewart won the Championship (at least my sister is happy). I've turned into a full fledged "couch-jock" as of late and if I'm not careful, I'll probably end up losing my gay-card for being such a crazy rebel.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I'd love to move back to Wilmington, NC eventually, but right now (at this very moment), I'd really like to be at a small bar, with a karaoke machine and several of my friends, just chillaxin' and having a good time.
Ever go camping?
Many, many times - used to go out to the grassfields for all night bonfire / camping adventures and also cat-fishing. Good times. Spent quite a few nights in a small tent with a sexy neighbor boy over the past few years as well before he turned into a total ass-clown.
Do you have a tan?
Nope - I'm just a pale, pasty-skinned white boy.

Do you use smiley faces on the computer alot?
I do use them sometimes, but not as much as I used to.

What did your last text message say?
"Ken is going to ride with me quick alli the way".
Are you someone's best friend?
Yeah, I think so.
What are you doing tomorrow?
I have no idea right now. I would like to chill w/ some friends, drink some beer and re-connect with some old friends. I also need to go out and do some work on my Blazer and see if I can get it running again.
Where is your mom right now?
Sitting about ten feet away from me being brainwashed by the cult of Fox News.
Look to your left, what do you see?
A wall, some closed blinds covering a window and some sheer white curtains.
What color is your watch?
I've got two of them that I like (but rarely wear) - one has an orange face and the other has a light green face on it.
What do you think of when you think of Australia?
Never been there, but seems like a nice place. Hugh Jackman is from there and he's a hottie so that's one big plus... lol
Ever ridden on a roller coaster?
Many times - and loved it.
What is your birthstone?
Ruby
Do you go in at a fast food place or just hit the drive thru?
I go through the drive-thru...
Do you have any friends on Facebook that you actually hate?
Nope - if I hated them, they wouldn't be on my Friends list.
Do you have a dog?
Not at the moment, no. I wish we did, but ever since our dog, Spice, passed away last year (after 14 years), we decided to avoid any new pets for a while.
Last person you talked to on the phone?
The man that I love and want to spend the rest of my life with, Cal...
Any plans today?
Well, the day is nearly over, but as the night progresses, I will probably watch Impact Wrestling, maybe play on the computer for a bit and work on a couple of fiction stories that have been neglected as of late. Also, have an idea for a new project that I want to look into and follow up on.
Are you happy?
I'm in a better mood today than I have been in quite a while, but saying that I'm "happy" would be stretching it a bit. I'm not unhappy - 'Nuff said!
Where are you right now?
Sitting in my living room at my computer - duh!
Biggest annoyance in your life right now?
This loud ass TV that my mom's watching which is only three feet away from me. I was here first so why the hell can't she go into the other room to watch TV and let me enjoy some peace?
Last song listened to?
"Because I'm Too White" by the Afro Men
Last movie you saw?
"Shock Treatment" - the sequal to the Rocky Horror Picture Show.. - a damn good movie in it's own right.
Are you allergic to anything?
Daylight...
Favorite pair of shoes you wear all the time?
My cheap ass five dollar house shoes - they're so comfy..
Are you jealous of anyone?
Nope - everyone is jealous of me...lol.
Are you married?
Nope - I'm not allowed to get married because the thought of my being allowed to make a life-long committment to the man I consider my "soul-mate" and "other-half", the man I love more than I've ever loved anyone pisses some people off.
Is anyone jealous of you?
Didn't I just answer this one? Everybody wants to be Dougie-Fresh... lol.
Do any of your friends have children?
Almost all of my friends have at least one child - most have more. I'm not that fortunate and have no kids to call my own.
Do you eat healthy?
Ummmmm.... that depends on your definition of "healthy". It hasn't killed me yet.
What do you usually do during the day?
Clean up around the house, write, sleep, watch TV, do stuff for the Food Bank on Monday thru Thursdays and just try to keep busy.
Do you hate anyone right now?
Hate is such a strong and wicked word - I don't "hate" anyone. There is one lying ass, two-faced, hypocritical, pill-popping, bitch whore that I'd like to see vanish from the face of the earth and quit wasting our air with her existence, but that's only because she deserves it - not because I "hate" her.
Do you use the word 'hello' daily?
Only when I answer the phone - I'm more of a "howdy", a "how you doing", or a "what up?", type of person than a "hello" person.
How many kids do you want when you're older?
I'm too old now to answer this question. I wish I had children when I was younger (about fifteen years ago), but now, at this point of my life, it's not going to happen so why even worry about it?
How did u get one of your scars?
I answered the door at Shelley's house when someone knocked at 3:30 in the AM..

Wrestling Fact or Fiction: December 1, 2011
Over at 411mania.com, they have a pretty good wrestling website. It's not as good as Wrestle-Zone.UK of course (I know where my bread is buttered... lol), but they do have some fantastic writers and regular columns. And one of my favorite regular features at this site is a little thing called "Fact or Fiction" where two (sometimes more) of the talented personalities from the 411mania family are presents a set of statements (wrestling related, of course) and asked if these statements are, in that person's opinion, either fact or fiction.
If you want to read their column, go check it out here... http://www.411mania.com/wrestling/columns/212865
And what I'm doing here is taking the questions / statements presented in this column, dated 12/01/11 and written so excellently by Steve Cook and giving my response and reply to each question. Yeah, I'm just bored and killing time and attempting to get a wrestling column written at the same time. Multitasking be my name...lol. So here you go with my thoughts on each statement and are they fact or fiction?
John Cena Will Remain A Face Headed Into Wrestlemania 28?
FACT: John Cena is going to be cheered by the kiddies no matter what he does. And he's going to be booed by the haters no matter what either. While I can easily see the WWE trying to make Cena a bit more cutting edge and serious to draw in some of the scorn he regularly feels, the fact of the matter is Cena sells too much merchandise and does way too much P.R. work for the company to ever truly make a complete heel turn. So unless they (the WWE) have a strong personality that can step up and fill Cena's shoes (Zack Ryder perhaps?), they won't want to hurt the image of their cash cow, thus Cena remains a face, now and forever.
Daniel Bryan is a believable contender to Mark Henry's World Championship?
FACT: Daniel Bryan against Mark Henry is a classic example of brains and skill versus strength and muscle. And sometimes, the power wins out and other times, the speed and science wins out. Listen, this is the WWE where we're supposed to believe that Rey Mysterio Jr. was a credible world champion and could defeat thirty men in the Royal Rumble. Compared to Rey, Daniel Bryan looks like Andre the Giant. He's not a big man, but he's a great "wrestler" and has a reputation all around the world that precedes his WWE career as a great submission-based wrestling star (even though most of the current WWE fans have no idea about his past experiences and matches). Bryan will never be able to over-power or out-muscle Henry, but he can use his speed to hit and run, use his wrestling skills to wear Henry down and use his brains to outsmart the World Champion. And if he does this, then Daniel Bryan is the new World Champion. It's just that simple.
Alberto Del Rio should remain in the WWE Championship picture?
FACT: For the time being, Del Rio should be the main guy to challenge CM Punk for the WWE Championship. He's the former champ and he's got a strong presence and uniqueness among the WWE entities. While I wouldn't have Del Rio as the only challenger for Punk (I would also add Miz to the mix), I like the chemistry between the two men. Both are good on the mic and this current feud between the two men has legs and could be milked for quite a while before getting stale or boring. Del Rio should always be in the mix of the top three-four guys on RAW, whether he's challenging for the title or not. He's earned that spot and more importantly, it helps keep John Cena from that spot. And that is definitely not a bad thing.
John Morrison leaving WWE is the right move.
FACT: He's not happy with the WWE since they fired his girlfriend, Melina. The WWE wasn't happy with John Morrison since he comes across as a (pardon my language) pussy-whipped jackass in his dealings with others in regards to his girlfriend, Melina. And while he's maintained a presence in the upper mid-card of the WWE, he's just never really broken the glass ceiling. He's gone as far as he can in the WWE at this point in his career and it's probably better for all parties concerned that he moves on to TNA and tries to continue his growth as a sports-entertainer. I personally feel that Morrison will be back in the WWE at some point in the future, after some time has passed and bad feelings have passed over, but for now, the WWE is not where he needs to be. It's time to move on.
You agree with WWE '12's assertion that David Otunga is the worst wrestler in the WWE?
FICTION: While I don't think that Otunga is a great wrestler, he's definitely not the worst wrestler in the WWE? Who's worse, you ask? Take a look at the entire Divas Division, with the exceptions of Beth Phoenix and Natayla. They all suck! Look at Hornswoggle? He's far worse. And Michael Cole wrestles on occasion. Compared to Cole, Otunga could pass for Ric Flair. Let's be serious here. Otunga is still very green and is being pushed far too early for a wrestler of his limited experience. He should be either still down in Florida in Developmental or working Indy shows in Charleston, West Virginia. He's only in the WWE and on the main roster because he's engaged to Jennifer Hudson. We all know this. And if they're going to continue to use Otunga on TV, it should be as a legal advisor or manager. He's a smart guy and good talker and knows how to get heat. And they should limit his wrestling appearances until he's had more chances to learn and grow as a performer (preferably in dark matches and on house shows). He's got potential to be a major player for the WWE, although I doubt it will be strictly as an in-ring performer. He's not a great wrestler, but at least he does have some talent and a future. Hell, he's better in the ring than Santino... lol
WWE Divas are treated better than TNA Knockouts?
FICTION: The TNA Knockouts, despite some stupid storylines as of late with Karen Jarrett as their boss, are allowed to get into the ring and put together a real match. They're allowed to offer their imput on matches and storylines and WRESTLE. The WWE Divas probably have more perks backstage, but they're treated with absolutely no respect in the ring and with their storylines. The average Diva match in the WWE is given generally about two minutes or so of time and that's including introductions. TNA Knockout matches run just as long as the men's matches do and are called by the TNA announcers and treated seriously as if they matter, while the WWE Diva matches are just afterthoughts that are usually talked over or ignored by the WWE announce teams. I expect that the WWE Divas probably make better money and do more modeling gigs and photo-shoots, but the TNA Knockouts are given more respect, by their peers and the fans. And to me, that's definitely the better deal.
The Dragon Gate USA / Evolve merger will have little effect on either companies popularity?
FACT: While I have to admit that I've never watched a wrestling show by either company, I've read about both companies quite a few times and from what I understand, each of these companies have loyal and strong fan bases and unless this merger ends up being an "Invasion" type fiasco, they'll each keep their audience, use the benefits of the other company to expand their talent rosters and keep going strong. This merger is simply a consolidation of Gabe Sabolsky's business ventures and nothing more. Everything else for the companies should remain status quo.
And there you go. My answers to the 411 Fact or Fiction column from 411mania.com. Comments and questions can be sent to my e-mail at Doug28352@yahoo.com. And I guess that's all for now. Until the next time, my friends, have a great day and please always be a fan.
