Tossing Salt - Worldwide News: April 30, 2011

Tossing Salt - Worldwide News
April 30, 2011
Doug Maynard

I watched the Royal Wedding yesterday between Prince William and Kate Middleton and I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed. It was a beautiful ceremony with plenty of pomp and circumstance, but we didn't have a single big red monster come up through the floor during the ceremony. We didn't get any interuptions and videos about Kate being married the night before in Vegas. We didn't even get any snake bites at the reception. And the official conducting the ceremony didn't even rip off his fake face and talk about "Three Minutes". What kind of wedding was this? I've been watching wrestling for over thirty years. I know how a wedding is supposed to go. We didn't even get to see Kate get involved in a cat fight and end up with her face in the wedding cake. Admit it. You'd have liked to have seen that.

Instead we got flowers and bands and romance and all sort of great ceremony. It was truly a magestic affair to remember and congratulations to William and Kate on their marriage. May they have many years of great happiness in their future. But lighten up a bit and relax. I know that yesterday was a big moment, but you can't be all serious all the time. After all, look at the Queen. She dressed up like the Teletubbie, La La. Now that's a lady who knows how to have fun. First she "knights" Michael Cole and then tells her designers that "I want to look like a lemon at the wedding". Gotta love her.

Okay, have I been impeached or sent to the gallows yet? Nope, I'm still here. My apologies if I offended anyone with my jokes. They're just jokes, much like Hogan and Bischoff running TNA wrestling and thinking it will succeed or Donald Trump running for President of the United States. Yeah, it makes for a good conversation and story, but just isn't going to happen.

By the way, I'm Doug and this is professional wrestling's most eclectic column since 2003, the one and only, often imitated, but never duplicated, "Tossing Salt - Worldwide News". I think it's time for me to quit trying to be funny (it doesn't seem to be working anyhow) and get on to what we're here to get on to... the "King of Sports", professional wrestling (or as the WWE calls it, "that which shall not be named".

So what's on the agenda? We have a pay-per-view tomorrow night for the WWE called "Extreme Rules". That means match predictions. And also, I want to talk about Chris Jericho and his departure from "Dancing With The Stars", as well as two other WWE Superstars who may be making departures of their own in the very near future. And I'm sure that I'll think of something else as I go along. So let's get this party started. Break out the funnel.

As most of you are aware, this past week saw the elimination of WWE Superstar / Rock Star Chris Jericho from the television competition, "Dancing With The Stars". After six weeks, the odds finally caught up to Jericho and after he and partner, Sheryl, received a paltry score of 22 points this past week, the curtain finally fell for the "Man of 1004 Holds!".

For someone like Jericho, who has no previous dance experience at all, to go into such an intense competition as DWTS and do so well was amazing, but Jericho is the type of guy who works hard, gives it everything he has and thrives on the challenges of competition, thus it's not really a surprise that he did so well. Even though he's technically not employed at the moment by the WWE, he made sure to mention the WWE often and give the company, and pro wrestling in general, a very good boost in character and image. For the fans who still think of wrestling as the small high school gyms and big, mindless brutes pounding each other, to see someone like Jericho come up and show just how well spoken, talented and charismatic pro wrestlers can be and are these days, it was a great education.

Jericho not only built his character and image in the world of entertainment, but he has proven to be a major asset and positive to pro wrestling in general and the WWE in particular. People who don't watch wrestling saw Jericho on DWTS and are more likely now to tune in to the WWE to check things out. And having Miz there on Chris's final night to lend him support was cool too.

It was a shame that Chris Jericho's ride on DWTS ended so soon, but it's not really an ending, but more of a beginning for the "Lion Hearted One". Chris will be back in WWE soon enough. I think we all know that. But the publicity of DWTS opens up so many more doors for Chris, with TV spots, movies, guest appearances, etc. We've always known that "WWE is Jericho", but after the past six weeks, I think it's safe to say that "Hollywood Is Jericho" too. And it couldn't happen to a better person. Congrats, Chris on a job well done.

Moving on and speaking of departures, rumor has it that two current WWE Superstars may soon be leaving the company. I'm talking about Michelle McCool and CM Punk.

Michelle McCool, long the dominate Diva on Smackdown, has allegedly decided that she'd rather stay at home for the duration and help her husband, The Undertaker, recover from injuries rather than stay in the WWE and work that hard road schedule. I can't say that I really blame her for that, especially when you factor in that whenever the Undertaker is ready to return to the ring, McCool can easily return to the company at that point and resume her career. It makes sense and explains why, after being reported in the live reports from this week's Smackdown tapings that the match at "Extreme Rules" was a "Loser Leave Smackdown" match, it was changed in the editing room to a "Loser Leave WWE" match.

Whatever the reason may be, this may be a good idea for McCool. She has injuries of her own that really haven't been able to properly heal (her foot) and obviously, she could do far more good for the company by helping Undertaker recover and get over his injuries rather than spend all of her time on the road traveling and risking injury herself. So I believe this particular rumor is true.

As for CM Punk, his contract is allegedly set to expire in a few months and he has yet to sign a new deal, citing the long hours on the road and the heavy travel schedule, as well as his perceived under-card status as compared to other WWE stars such as John Cena, Randy Orton, The Miz, Alberto Del Rio, etc. And I can't really blame him if this is indeed the case. Punk has done well with everything the WWE has given him to work with and deserves to be on the same level internally as the guys I mentioned. Instead, he's overlooked and merely an afterthought. Think about this. It's been almost a year since the last time he won a match on pay-per-view. And for someone who can generate the heat he does... and produce the matches he does, that is just insane.

If Punk does leave the WWE, I don't see him really gone for too long a time. I think he'll end up with a Chris Jericho like status where he takes some time off, recuperates from injuries and recharges the batteries, and comes back stronger and better than ever when he wants to. The man has skills and charisma that are extremely hard to match in the business these days and I believe the WWE realizes just what a talent they have. I've heard that the main reason that Beth Phoenix, who just happens to be dating Punk at the moment, was drafted to RAW, was to make Punk happier and more content to stay.

Leave or stay, I think Punk will do what's best for Punk. And my own feelings are that, after much negotiations and a reduced work schedule (TV tapings, PPV's and the occasional house show), we'll see Punk stick around for the duration. I hope so anyhow because if he does leave, Monday nights will lose some of their magic. I'm not doubting the talents or abilities of the other WWE Superstars. They're good, but Punk has that magic, that "it" about him. And if the WWE is smart, they'll pull out all the stops to keep him around.

Let's move on now to Sunday night and the WWE's "Extreme Rules" pay per view. I don't expect it to do major sales or buy-rates, but I do expect to see a solid show and history to be made. Let's get to the matches.

WWE Championship - Cage Match
The Miz (c) versus John Morrison versus John Cena

Well, we all know that John Morrison is not going to win this match. That's pretty much a given. So do we see the WWE and RAW return to Super-Cena as their champ or do they keep the title on the most must-see WWE Champion ever? Miz has done an excellent job as the WWE Champion and in representing the company these past five months and I really don't think it's time for it to end. They have to keep Cena strong because he's John Cena, so I can't really see Miz pinning Cena to win. So that's why Morrison is here. Look for R-Truth to do some interference and set up Morrison to be pinned by the Miz, thus allowing the Miz to retain the WWE Championship. And that, my friends, is AWESOME!

Winner and STILL Champion: The Miz

World Championship - Ladder Match
Christian versus Alberto Del Rio

With this match, this will be the first time since Randy Savage fought Ted DiBiase in the tourmanent finals at Wrestlemania IV that a WWE or World Championship match will result in a new champion (someone who has never held either the WWE or World Championship before.) Del Rio says that it's his destiny, but I think that that distinction falls to "Captain Charisma", who is the right man in the right place at the right time. Look for "The Peep's Pope" to climb that ladder and grab that big gold belt, along with cementing his place in WWE history. I'd also expect to see Edge come out and celebrate with his best friend so we can get a great "Benoit / Guerrero" moment at the end of the show. Del Rio may have a World title in his future and destiny, but it won't be at Extreme Rules.

Winner and NEW WORLD CHAMPION: Christian

No DQ, No Count Out, Loser Leave WWE Match
Michelle McCool versus Layla

I discussed this earlier. McCool is leaving to spend time with her husband, The Undertaker. She will be back eventually, but so far as this night goes, it will be Layla who will have her hand raised in victory and move on in the WWE Diva's division. I'd love to see Kharma make her debut in this match and allign herself with Layla to cost Michelle the match. It'd give Kharma a good feud for the future (against McCool) and help her make an impact on her first night by destroying McCool and "retiring" her from the WWE and give Layla a role as her associate / keeper.

Winner: Layla

Country Whipping Match
Jim Ross & Jerry "The King" Lawler versus Jack Swagger & Michael Cole

This is going to be a stinker of a match, but at the same time, it's the match I want most to see. With Ross's physical condition and Cole's lack of wrestling skills, let's hope that Swagger and Lawler do most of the ringwork. And even though we'll see Ross and Lawler take some shots, I strongly expect to see Cole goof up and get the All American American mad at him. Swagger walks out and Cole takes an old fashioned mule whipping. And the fans are happy. I'm happy. Everyone is happy. And this feud ends while Cole goes on to feud with Eve and the Divas.

Winners: Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler

Last Man Standing Match
CM Punk versus Randy Orton

So do we go for the guy who might be leaving or the guy who's just been moved over to the other brand and on his first night, is already RKOing everyone and anyone who moves. It's going to be a great match. I'm sure of that as these two work so well together and are capable of some fantastic matches and in ring work. Does it matter who wins? Not really. Both men are so over with the fans that no matter the result of this match, it's not going to change the minds of anyone as to how great they are or aren't. Punk deserves to get the win and it would be a nice move by the WWE to help keep him around and on the roster, but I don't think it will happen. Look for lots of back and forth and close calls by both men, but in the end, Randy and the RKO will get the win.

Winner: Randy Orton

Falls Count Anywhere Match
Cody Rhodes versus Rey Mysterio

Another great match that can easily go either way and it doesn't really matter who wins or loses. Cody needs the win more than Rey does, buta strong performance and maybe some after-match hijinks will make up for any loss. Rey lost at Wrestlemania, so that means Cody loses here. It's simply the most logical thing to do.

Winner: Rey Mysterio

Rumors continue to persist that sometime between now and tomorrow night, we're going to see a match added between the United States Champion, Sheamus and Kofi Kingston. Not sure exactly what the stipulation might be, but just in case the WWE does decide to pull the gun and add this match, here you go.

United States Championship Match
Sheamus (c) versus Kofi Kingston

Sheamus gave Kofi a major beatdown on Smackdown last night, but Kofi scored the win in a match on RAW this past Monday, so essentially, they're tied. So who wins this match? Sheamus is the U.S. Champion, but there is already a secondary title on Smackdown with Wade Barrett and the Intercontinental Championship. Thus, it's purely a matter of logistics as the U.S. belt has to go back to RAW. Kofi is a RAW guy now so he picks up the win and the title.

Winner and NEW U.S. Champion Kofi Kingston

And there you go. My predictions for WWE Extreme Rules 2011. Am I right? Am I wrong? We'll see tomorrow night.

And on that, I'll close this up for now. Questions and comments can be sent to Doug28352@yahoo.com. Tossing Salt Is Smackdown: April 29, 2011

Tossing Salt Is Smackdown
April 29, 2011
Doug Maynard

I'm Doug. Let's do this...

Last Monday was the WWE 2011 Draft... and the landscape has changed. We see highlights from Monday night to start off the show. John Cena with the first ever "Dusty finish" in WWE Draft History as he goes back to RAW and plays "Super-Cena".

Time to layeth the smack down with "Tossing Salt Is Smackdown!"

It's Josh Matthews, Booker T and Michael Cole calling the action in Greensboro, NC and the vacant World Title Belt is hanging above the ring. Later tonight, Big Show and Kane defend the WWE Tag Team Titles against Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel, plus Rey Mysterio takes on Mark Henry later tonight. Here comes Randy Orton to the ring.

Randy gets a great response from the crowd and seems happy. Boy needs a shave though. Randy introduces himself to the one or two fans who might not know him. He's Randy Orton and for the first time in almost five years, he's back on Smackdown. He's looking forward to the challenges ahead, but this Sunday, he has unfinished business to attend to involving CM Punk.

Here comes Drew McIntyre, wearing a brand new RAW t-shirt. He mocks the fans. Randy is on Smackdown and he (Drew) is moving to RAW. Drew says it's a shame that the WWE Universe will have to wait for Drew versus Randy. Drew is just here to say helo and goodbye and walks into an RKO by the "Viper" as he tries an ambush, but it backfires.

Randy talks again... and music hits. Here comes Alex Riley to the ring. He's been drafted to Smackdown too. Alex never gets to speak as Randy hits an RKO on the Miz's former assistant.

Randy gets the mic to talk again. And here comes Alberto Del Rio, along with Brodus Clay and Ricardo Rodriguez. Alberto introduces himself and he comments on Randy making a great first impression. Alberto feels bad for the people because they're losing him from Smackdown and will lose the World Title too when he takes it to RAW. Alberto is there to make a lasting impression. Randy is surrounded. And Christian comes out so it's two on three.

Here comes Teddy Long. Holla holla holla! It's a new era on Smackdown, but it's his rules. Tonight will be Alberto Del Rio and Brodus Clay versus Christian and Randy Orton in the main event. Holla! Alberto and Brodus smile, but Christian and Orton clear the ring.

Monday night on RAW, it's the Rock's birthday and the WWE is celebrating, live from Miami.

Kofi Kingston comes out and here comes Sheamus with a sneak-attack and ambush. Sheamus puts a major beatdown on the Green Jumping Bean and puts a major whooping on the guy both outside and inside the ring. Boom! Boom! Boom! Sheamus stands tall in the end.

Later tonight, Rey Mysterio takes on Mark Henry.

Smack Of The Night: Michael Cole versus Jim Ross from Monday night - Jim Ross pounds Michael Cole and Jerry gives him a whipping!

Michael Cole is in the ring and looks rough. A black eye and busted mouth... wow! He talks about how he'll destroy Lawler and Ross and mocks Jim Ross while bringing out Jack Swagger. Swagger wearing new RAW t-shirt and does some push-ups on the way to the ring. He hugs Cole - how sweet. It's match time.

Jack Swagger vs. Sin Cara

Good editing as Cara flies into the ring. Swagger starts off by taking Cara down with legit wrestling moves, but Cara escapes with kicks. A big clothesline by Swagger to take back control. Swagger with hard whip into corner and Cara is down. A big slam by Swagger, but misses the splash off the ropes as Cara gets up the knees. It's Sin Cara in control now with a head scissors and a kick. Swagger with a big boot to the face. Cole slips Swagger a foreign object. Cara with a roll-up for the pin.

Winner: Sin Cara

Cole is livid and tells Swagger to do something. He tries, but Sin Cara sends him to the floor and flattens the All-American American with a big squash splash outside the ring.

We see Cole talking junk and gving a pep talk to Swagger. Kane and The Big Show are heading towards the ring and their tag team title defense is next.

Sunday night is Extreme Rules on PPV. Christian versus Del Rio for the vacated World Championship in a ladder match. Should be fun.

Another great video with "Kharma" ripping the head off more dolls. She laughs and is just awesome (Kong).

WWE World Tag Team Championship
The Big Show & Kane (champions) versus Justin Gabriel & Heath Slater - The Corre

Heath starts off against The Show and takes a beating, but Heath clips the leg. Gabriel in and he's using the feet and some kicks to score the advantage for a two. Show kicks out and we go to a commerical.

We come back and Slater with a DDT and cover on the Show for two. Gabriel is in for another two count and some stomps. Sleeper by Gabriel. Show gets up and a side-slam for Gabriel. Both down. Kane and Slater both in. Kane with clotheslines and a kick for two. It's all Kane for another two. Kane goes up top for the big fist and it's chokeslam time. Show in and both Slater and Gabriel get chokeslammed. Kane pins Slater and gets the win.

Winners and STILL CHAMPIONS: Kane and Big Show

In the back, Great Khali and his human voice-box, Rahjin Singh, talk to Rey Mysterio and wish him great luck on RAW. A new guy comes in and talks to Khali and the manager for a moment before walking off.

Rey comes to the ring and he's got the mic. We see a replay from last week where Cody Rhodes bagged the luchadore legend. Rey says it's hard to be leaving Smackdown and he's enjoyed every single minute of his Smackdown career. The journey continues at Extreme Rules when he defeats Cody Rhodes and he and the fans can celebrate together. The WWE fans will always be a part of the "619".

We see video from MOnday night where Mark Henry turns on Cena and Christian in the six-man tag match. Mark Henry talks. It's unfortuate for Rey that his farewell is Rey's debut.

Rey Mysterio versus "The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry

Rey with kicks. Henry with a choke. Rey fights back with speed and kicks. Henry with the shot to flatten Rey and just stands on him. Rey with fists, but Henry slams him to the mat. Mark throws Rey to the floor. Mark follows Rey out, but Rey fights back. Henry with a shot, but Rey fights back and Mark eats steel steps as we go to a commercial.

Back and Rey is throwing kicks at Henry in the corner. Rey to the top rope, but Mark catches him and doubles Rey over. A big splash in the corner and Rey is down. Mark covers for two. Headbutts by Mark Henry and some kicks. Mark just tosses Rey around, but misses a butt-drop. Rey fights back and flies, getting a two count. Dropkick by Rey to the leg and he hits a "619". And here is "Phantom of the Smackdown" Cody Rhodes with the attack on Rey.

Winner by DQ: Rey Mysterio

Cody just beats down on Rey as the fight goes into the audience. Kicking and clubbering by Cody as he takes Rey back into the ring where Mark Henry is waiting to deliver the "World's Strongest Slam". Mark just smiles as he walks off, headed back to the dressing room. Cody has a paper bag and puts it on Rey one more time, "bagging" his rival in preparation for their "Falls Count Anywhere" match at Extreme Rules.

Later tonight, it's Christian and Randy Orton versus Alberto Del Rio and Brodus Clay in the main event.

We see a replay of Michelle McCool and Layla having problems during their counseling sessions and then Layla freaking out on Michelle on Monday night.

Michelle McCool versus Layla

Layla attacks and it's a cat fight. Fist city by both Diva's. They go to the floor and Michelle dominates with a hard whip to the ringside barrier. A kick by Michelle and the ref calls for the bell as the fight continues.

Double Count Out

Referees come down and pull the two Diva's apart. Somewhere, I can hear Joey Styles yelling "Catfight!". Layla gets the mic - she wants a match at Extreme Rules with no count outs or DQ's. Michelle accepts the match at Extreme Rules under one condition - that the match is "Loser Leaves WWE!". Layla says, "You're On!"

We see a video highlighting the two-week tour of Europe that the WWE superstars just returned from. The song, "Justice" by Rev Theory is the official song for "Extreme Rules".

Matt Striker talks to Christian backstage. Christian reminds us that Alberto Del Rio injured him and he talks about his own destiny. He's been thinking and reflecting and does he really have what it takes. That changes this Sunday because it's his destiny to become the World Champion.

The announcers run down the matches for the Extreme Rules pay per view on Sunday. Ricardo is in the ring to make the introduction.

Alberto Del Rio & Brodus Clay w/ Ricardo Rodriguez versus Christian & Randy Orton

Del Rio starts off against Christian, but quickly tags in Clay. Brodus uses the power to dominate and takes Christian down. Christian with fists and kicks. Clay uses the poweer to take control and tags to Alberto. Del Rio with kicks and goes after the arm, getting a two count. Del Rio with arm bar. Christian with fists and a kick. Orton tags in and kicks away at Del Rio. A big knee, followed by another for two. Alberto grabs the arm and tags in Clay. Clay takes control and we go to commercial time.

slam by Clay on Orton and a cover for two. Del Rio tags in with kicks and another two count. Punches by Del Rio and the chinlock. Orton fights up and tries to tag Christian, but can't do it. Orton with suplex on Del Rio and both are down. Christian is as is Clay. Christian with kicks and the missle dropkick for two. Punch from the outside by Christian, but Clay with a fallaway slam for two. Clay stands on Christian as Del Rio gets in the cheap shots from outside. Clay covers for two. Del Rio comes in with kicks and back to the arm. Christian with fists and Del Rio with a headbutt. Del Rio to the floor. Christian crawls, but Clay is in with headbutts from behind. Backbreaker by Clay and a big slam. Another big slam and Del Rio tags in to get a two count. Del Rio with kicks for another two. Del Rio is waiting and goes for the big kick in the corner and goes upstairs. Christian is up with a hurracurana. Christian tags off to Randy who unloads with the clotheslines on everyone. A suplex for Del Rio and the second rope DDT. Randy punches Clay and sets up for the RKO. Clay trips Randy from the outside and Randy still manages to hit the RKO on Clay for the pin.

Winners: Randy Orton and Christian

Del Rio is not happy and Christian looks up towards the World Championship belt as the show comes to an end.

And there you go with another Friday Night Smackdown in the books. It wasn't a bad show and did a good job of helping to build towards the "Extreme Rules" pay per view on Sunday.

And with that, I'm out of here for now. Had more to talk about, but it's been a stressful day and I'm just not feeling it right now, so I'll just wind it up and get back to what I need to get back to at a later time. Does that sound like a plan or what? Congrats to William and Kate! I'm Doug and I am outta here. Until the next time, Ubuntu!

Tossing Salt Is American Idol - April 28, 2011: Results Show

Tossing Salt Is American Idol
April 28, 2011
"Six Becomes Five" - Results Show

Last night, we got to see the talents that are the American Idol contestants perform the songs of the legendary Carole King, both as solo performers and in some very unique and entertaining duets. And tonight, we come back once more to find out the answers to those two very big questions: Who are the Bottom Three? And more importantly, who is going home?

Recapping last night, my own thoughts were that Scotty was awesome, James did great as always and Casey was as polished and entertaining as he could possibly be. Jacob doesn't know how to dress and the peformance was boring. Ditto for Lauren and Haley, who sang great, but just didn't really have anything extra or memorable going for them.

And trying to guess who the fans would vote into the Bottom Three, my predictions were Jacob, Lauren and Casey, the latter being so quirky that a large number of fans might not "get it" and get his particular eclectic style of music and performance. And my own personal feeling is that Jacob should go home. But knowing how loyal his followers can be, his time probably isn't just yet. (Next week maybe?) My prediction is that Lauren will be going home.

And tonight, we find out if I know what I'm talking about or am I just blowing smoke out my oingo boingo. It's results night. The host is Ryan Seacrest. The judges are Steven Tyler, Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez. Performing tonight will be Bruno Mars and Crystal Bowersox. Who? Oh yeah, she was on Idol last season. Cool beans! So we know the players. Let's get to the action.

I'm Doug and this is...

"Tossing Salt Is American Idol: Six Becomes Five - The Results Show!"

Let's do it. Word to your mutha...

We start the show with a great melody of Carole King songs by the Super Six. Fun little number and very well done. After that, we get look at the Ford Music Video. It's put to the music of Madness, doing a great "one hit wonder" called "Our House". And in the commercial, the Idol contestants show that they can do some wonderful things with magic markers. Lots of filler and now it's time for the music.

Last year's runner-up, Crystal Bowersox comes to the stage and sings "Riding With The Radio", which I would assume is from her album, if she has one out there. Ryan didn't plug any albums or upcoming events with Crystal - she just sang her song and then the Six Amigos came over and said hi while we went to commerical.

We come back and it's time to play "Truth Or Dare" with the Idolettes. OK, maybe not, but Ryan does have questions from fans for each of the Silly Six. Casey is asked who he would like to duet with, living or dead. He replied with the name Oscar Peterson, who is evidentially a great jazz legend. My answer would have been either Waylon Jennings or Alice Cooper. Jacob was asked when he realized he has such range in his voice. He claims it was while singing in the choir with his Mom and he discovered he could do either high or low notes. I thought it was at the dance club on Amateur Strip Night when the high school football team climbed on the stage.

Lauren was asked what the hardest thing about being an Idol finalist is and she spoke about being away from family and friends who are back home. Scotty was asked about the jobs he's held, pre-Idol. He mentioned working in a grocery store and working at his Mom's tanning salon. What about modeling for Mad Magazine as a stand-in for Alfred E. Nueman? Just kidding! Don't shoot me! I like Scotty and we have a bag boy down at our local Food Lion who kind of reminds me of him.

James was asked if he had played in any bands before coming to Idol and he replied that yes, he's played in many bands and always has other projects going on, mentioning the band that he, Casey, Paul and Stefano had formed together while being on Idol. And Haley was asked who her favorite past Idol contestant was. She played it safe by naming Adam Lambert and then going on with about a dozen other names as well.

And then the eliminations started. As each contestant came up, we saw a piece of video from last night, along with comments by producer Jimmy Ivine.

Haley was the first one up. As she stood there, Jimmy mentioned in the video that Haley doesn't really know who she is yet, which Haley didn't quite seem to agree with. Ryan tells Haley that she is SAFE!

Next up is Scotty and we see some video from last night's performance. Jimmy says that Scotty is a "phenom" and makes a comparison to Johnny Cash. Ryan tells Scotty that he can go back to the couch and wait to find out if he stays or goes home.

Lauren comes up next and we hear Jimmy say that Lauren only hears the negative and not the positive comments, but shows great poise when confident and is here for the long run. Ryan tells Lauren to go back and sit on the couch. She has to wait for her status too.

Casey is the next up and as we see clips from his performance last night, Jimmy says that he was a bit disapointed in Casey's performance, but he feels that Casey is safe for the night. As he has twice before, Ryan tells Casey that he has to wait to know his status.

James is the next man to take center stage and Jimmy comments about how he likes those hard rock songs, but he's more believable doing rock ballads. Jimmy feels that James has what it takes to win. Ryan tells James that he is SAFE!

And finally, we get to Jacob. Jimmy wonders if Jacob went into the wrong dressing room last night and says that it's not just about singing, but also about image. He feels that Jacob is standing on a banana peel.

Ryan summons Casey, Lauren and Scotty to join Jacob at center-stage. And Lauren is SAFE! What the...?? I don't get it. *Sighs*. The Bottom Three are Scotty, Casey and Jacob. I don't like the way this is going.

We come back from commercial and go immediately into a Bruno Mars performance. No introduction or anything. Just Bruno and his group up there singing. Yeah, it's all good and the man has talent, but he needs to shut up already so we can get to the finals and find out who is going home.

Ryan is on stage with Casey, Jacob and Scotty. He tells Jacob that he is safe. What the... ??? Travesty! What the hell are they smoking up there? If that perfomance last night wasn't enough to get him booted off, then that suit should have been. I'm royally pissed off! Let's get to the final two.

It's Casey and Scotty and...

Casey Abrams goes home! Scotty is safe!

DAMN! I'm glad that Scotty is safe, but Casey gave a great performance last night and does not deserve this at all. Casey accepts his fate and sings "I Put A Spell On You" to close out the show, getting kudos and hugs from all the judges, not to mentioning kissing and hugging every female in the front row of the audience. A great performance. He came back to the stage to finish up and chest-bumped at Scotty and got bowed down to by James. And that's all folks!

I hated the way it ended, but I have no doubt that, as talented as he is, we definitely have not heard the last of Casey Abrams. I mentioned in last night's column that he might just be a little too quirky for some people's tastes and that I was worried that too many people just might not "get him", and unfortunately, I was right. But he'll be okay - this is not the end, but just the beginning. Thank you, Casey for all of the talent and entertainment over the past season that you've provided.

And I'm going to end this now before I say anything too inappropiate or wrong about the travesty that just happened. Of the bottom three, the right one DID NOT go home (and I'm not talking about Scotty). Well, maybe next week, right? I'm Doug and I'm out of here. I'll have a "Tossing Salt - Worldwide News" wrestling column up this weekend, so look for that.

"And dat is all de' people need to know!"

Ubuntu!

Back again with my weekly review of America's number one reality show and music competition, American Idol. And then there were six. Last week, it was a travesty and the young latin heartthrob (and my future ex-lover), Stefano, went home. I didn't like it. Will I like this week any better? We'll see tomorrow night when the next elimination is announced.

But that's for tomorrow night. This is all about tonight. Who rocked the house? Who stunk up the house? Who needs to learn how to dress? We got six great singles performances and three very... interesting duets on the show tonight and the competition is extremely tight. The theme for the night was "The Songs Of Carole King". Wow! She's an amazing songwriter / singer with a career that dates back to the early sixties and based on her recent performances with James Taylor, she has no intentions of slowing down anytime soon. I was actually surprised to learn just how many songs she's responsible for in her career. She's an icon, to be sure. And the Idol contestants are paying her homage tonight... a tribute very well deserved.

Jacob Lusk started off the show with his cover of the song, "Oh No, Not My Baby". First off, who dressed this guy? Blue and yellow? I could make a joke here about how someone who's that far in the closet should have better fashion sense, but I won't go there. Ooops! Too late! I already did. My bad!

The performance was okay, but nothing special. Jacob moved around a lot and looked to be having fun up there, and that counts for something. And I did like that extended, long note in the middle. That was pretty cool. But aside from that one part, it just wasn't very memorable to me, neither the song nor the performance. The man has some vocal skills. There is no doubt about that, but I don't think he blew anyone away with that performance tonight. If he did, I just don't see it.

Next up was the lovely Lauren Alaina. I have to comment on Miley Cyrus making an appearance and giving Lauren a pep talk. That was cool Miley isn't everyone's favorite performer or person. Even I, one of the biggest Hannah Montana fans around (yes, I admit it - I love me some Hannah, Lily, Jackson and Robby Ray), was a little burnt out on her towards the end of the run of her show. But she gave good advice to Lauren and showed some good humor about producer Jimmy Irvine's comments about how Lauren's voice was better than Miley's a few weeks ago.

Now, back to Lauren. She peformed the song, "Where You Lead" and well... her voice was strong and as J-Lo commented, she did show a little swagger up there. And despite one moment where her voice cracked a bit trying to hit a high note, she gave a very solid performance. But the song was kind of boring and bland. She did well singing it, but when the most memorable part of the perfomance was bringing a guy from the audience on to the stage with her instead of the actual singing, that's not a good sign. She's got a strong future ahead of her in country music. I have no doubt about that, but if she's going to win Idol, or even remain past this week, she needs to really pick it up and kick some booty.

Now comes our first duet of the night as Haley and Casey got together to growl out a version of "I Feel The Earth Move". They were having fun up there and the song got better as it went along. It didn't really sound like their voices were blending together much on the duet parts, but in their solo parts, both Haley and Casey rocked it. It was a fun performance.

Scotty McCreery came up next and went with a cover of "You've Got A Friend". And damn it boy, he nailed it. The audience went crazy and I'm sure that all the little girls at home watching on their TV sets went crazy too. It was one of Scotty's strongest performances to date and possibly the best of the night. Great job by the North Carolina native.

And here comes James Durbin, the rocker of the Idol crowd. He slowed things down a bit and after going all out with a tremendous stage performance last week, kept things very simple with just he and his guitar as he covered "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow".

J-Lo called it "magical" and the "star of the night". And Randy Jackson made the prediction that James will be the next American Idol. And with consistent performances like he did tonight and every night thus far, I see no reason to disagree. I'm not sure if it was the best performance of the night, but it was damn good. James is damn good and he's going to go far, both on Idol and in the music industry in general. Great job by Mr. Durbin.

It's duet time again as Scotty and Lauren paired up for their third duet of the season to sing "Up On The Roof", which was a big hit for the Drifters. And it was okay. Lauren's voice was strong and Scotty just seemed to be kept in her shadow for this song. She was drowning him out more often than not. Usually, these two have great chemistry and work well together, but this just wasn't really what I'd call a great outing for the two as a duo.

Casey Abrams was up next with, what I thought was a very unique and magical performance, doing his version of a song made famous by Blood, Sweat & Tears called "Hi-De-Ho". It was jazzy and had all of the brass instruments playing. I loved it. It's not mainstream, but then again, there is very little about Casey that is mainstream America. He's got that mixture of jazz and blues and just his quirky little ways that set him apart. He's such a natural perfomer and entertainer up there on that stage. I don't know if America will get it, but I certainly do. Casey Abrams is definitely a star in the making.

And for our final solo act of the night, we get the always lovely Haley Renihart doing the song, "Beautiful". And I don't know. Haley did a good job with the song and her voice was strong. But the performance, especially after watching the showmanship of Casey immediately before, was just kind of boring. It's hard to describe here. I love her voice and she's gotten so much better on stage over the past few weeks, but it was just sort of a "cookie cutter" sort of night for Haley. She didn't show anything new or different. She was just kind of there. I'm not faulting her voice or disputing her talent. The lady has a great voice and can really bring it. She just didn't do it for me tonight.

And to close the show, we get a duet of a song made famous by the great Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits fame, and featured in the Naked Gun movies quite prominently as well, "I'm Into Something Good." I did not know Carole King wrote this song. My respect for her just increased ten-fold. I love this song.

And singing it were the unlikely duo of Jacob and James. And were they great? Not really, but they had energy and it was obvious they were having a lot of fun up there performing. And poor J-Lo. First Casey kissed her last week and now, this week, she gets sexually harassed by James and Jacob. I think she was blushing there at the end. It was a fun way to end the show. And wow - James and Jacob trying to out-do each other on the high notes at the end. That was great. And James won!

And that's Idol for this week, which leads us to the all important question, who will be in the bottom three tomorrow night? And even more importantly, who is going home?

It's hard to make a choice about who belongs in the bottom three. No one made any really big mistakes tonight and even though some of the performances weren't really my cup of tea and came across, in my opinion, as kind of boring, things are so tight and close now that there are no real losers. Everyone seems to be bringing out their A-games.

But there has to be a bottom three and my picks for the bottom three tomorrow night are: Jacob Lusk, Lauren Alaina and (damn, I hate to say this - don't want to jinx him but...) Casey Abrams

I really hate to put Casey up there because he is so talented and, after James, probably the most polished on-stage performer left at this point. But not everyone will get his style and music. He might be just a little too far out there and unique for his own good. I don't want him in the bottom three, but the voting this year has been weird and those are the three that I think will fill those stools tomorrow night on Fox.

And then the big question... Who is going home? It's between Lauren and Jacob because while I think Casey will be in the bottom three, he won't be at the very bottom. I know who, of the two left, I'd prefer to see go home. And it's coming. But I don't think it will be this week.

Tommorow night, Lauren Alaina is going home.

And there you go. Am I correct? Am I crazy? Agree or disagree with my assessments of the Idol performances. Let me know. We'll find out the results tomorrow night n Fox.

And on that, I'm Doug and I am out of here. Take care and thanks for reading.

Doug Maynard
The 2011 WWE Draft - Part 4

Hey all. It's Doug back one more time with a look at the ramifications of the upcoming 2011 WWE Draft this coming Monday night on RAW. Who will stay where they are and thrive and prosper? Who will be moved to the other brand, thus disrupting their lives, travel schedules and everything they know and love in hope of a better place in the company and in the hearts of the fans? And when will Jacob quit scaring small children with his overblown stage antics and scary faces and finally come out of the closet.

Oops! Ignore that last part. I had a momentary flash over to the American Idol recap blog I do every Wednesday night at www.tsfiction.blogspot.com. My bad.

So we're looking at the Supestars of Friday Night Smackdown. So far, I've evaluated half the Smackdown roster. I'll repost all the names, from both RAW and Smackdown, that I feel are being switched, at the end of the column. Now it's time to get busy and take on the other half of the roster that eats, sleeps and bleeds Smackdown blue, at least until Monday night. Let's get this party started.

Kaitlyn

I sort of remember this girl from NXT and her interaction with Vickie Guerrero, but I can't picture her in my mind. That's probably not a good thing. Live TV would expose her weaknesses and mistakes far too much, so they'll keep her on Smackdown where goofs can be fixed in editing (except for Michael Cole). She's safe.

Kane

He's part of the tag champions with Big Show now. He should remain exactly where he is for the time being. He's safe.

Kelly Kelly

Not sure about Kelly. She's hot, but she's not that great in the ring. Of course, she's a Diva so that's not really important these days. All that matters is she's hot. She's going to RAW.

Kofi Kingston

It wasn't all that long ago that Kofi was on RAW and he seemed to get lost in the shuffle towards the end. I'm not sure exactly where he would fit in best right now. He's a semi-big name with the company so I think he'll probably get moved just to show that no one is safe. Drafted.

Layla

Hot chicks make great live TV, but her potential feud with Michelle McCool has legs on it and a ways to go. For now, she's safe on Smackdown.

Matt Striker

I like Matt, but his value is as an announcer and not really as a wrestler anymore. That means he can pretty much travel between the brands as he chooses anyhow. That's not going to change. He's safe.

Michelle McCool

Michelle McTaker stays where she wants to stay (or should I say where her hubby wants her to stay). Smackdown is their home and I can't see them moving out anytime soon. Safe.

Rey Mysterio

For some reason, Rey never really seems to shine very well when he's on RAW. He's a Smackdown Superstar from Day 1 and that's where he belongs. He's safe.

Ricardo Rodriguez

For Ricardo, being with Alberto Del Rio is his destiny. He's staying put exactly where he is. Safe.

Rosa Mendez

She's hot and like I said earlier, hot chicks and live TV go well together. Since Layla is staying on Smackdown, Rosa gets to go to RAW. Drafted.

Teddy Long

A show can not have two "General Managers" and since the "Anonymous Raw General Manager" isn't up to be drafted (how can you draft someone when you don't know who they are?), I don't think that Teddy has to worry about changing offices or jobs anytime soon. He's staying right there in the Captain's seat on Smackdown. Now holla holla holla!

Todd Grisham

Another announcer and they're pretty much interchangable, going from show to show as it is, so he's safe and staying exactly where he is. Safe.

Tony Chimel

Ring announcers don't get switched or drafted. Tony stays put. Safe!

Trent Barreta

Another good young talent that doesn't get used very often except in a jobber capacity. I think he should be more worried about when the mass firings start rather than whether or not he's going to RAW or Smackdown on Monday. For now though, he stays put on Smackdown. Don't know why, except for he's probably too far under the radar for anyone to bother changing right now. Safe.

Tyler Reks

Another low level guy, but he's slightly higher, in my opinion, that Barreta is. He'll get moved and then vanish into RAW limbo, never to be seen again. Drafted.

Undertaker

Undertaker is Smackdown and Smackdown is Undertaker. That's not going to change. Safe!

Wade Barrett

Wade is a major break-out star just waiting to happen. While he seems to have moved into a comfortable role on Smackdown, I think that he (and the Intercontinental Championship) would be best served on RAW at this point. I've got Randy Orton moving to Smackdown, so that leaves a big void with CM Punk. Barrett and Punk have some unfinished business to settle and now would be a great time to get into that. Barrett just strikes me as a RAW guy. Drafted.

Zack Ryder

Zack is technically already a part of the RAW roster, but I was looking over the RAW part of this series of columns and somehow, I had forgotten to list him. Since I don't want Zack to come down and "Woo Woo Woo" on me, I decided to just make sure to list him here with my apologies. He's staying put exactly where he is anyhow. "Woo Woo Woo" is RAW!

And there you go. I'm finished with the Smackdown roster. Let's recap, shall we? From the current grouping of WWE Superstars on Friday Night Smackdown, it's my feeling that the following will be heading to RAW after Monday night: JTG, Jack Swagger, Hornswoggle, Drew McIntyre, Cody Rhodes, Chris Masters, Chavo Guerrero, Booker T, Beth Phoenix, Wade Barrett, Tyler Reks, Rosa Mendez, Kofi Kingston, and Kelly Kelly.

Remaining safely snuggled in their Smackdown beds are: Alberto Del Rio, Brodus Clay, Big Show, Christian, Curt Hawkins, Ezekeil Jackson, Heath Slater, Jack Corpela, Josh Matthews, Justin Gabriel, Undertaker, Trent Barreta, Tony Chimel, Todd Grisham, Teddy Long, Ricardo Rodriguez, Rey Mysterio, Michelle McCool, Matt Striker, Laylas, Kane and Katilyn.

And on the RAW roster, the changes to the roster will be the following RAW Superstars staying put on Monday nights: Alex Riley, CM Punk, Dolph Ziggler, The Bella Twins, Eve, Goldust, Husky Harris, Justin Roberts, John Cena, Maryse, Melina, Mason Ryan, William Regal, Vladimir Kozlov, Vickie Guerrero, Triple H, The Miz, Great Khali, Ted DiBiase, Scott Stanford, Santino, Ranjin Singh, R-Truth, Zack Ryder, Natayla, Michael Tarver, and Michael McGillicutty.

While these RAW talents will be changing their red shirts to blue and become part of the Smackdown family: Mark Henry, John Morrison, The Uso Brothers, Jerry Lawler, Evan Bourne, Gail Kim, David Otunga, David Hart Smith, Alicia Fox, Daniel Bryan, Tyson Kidd, Tamina, Skip Shefield, Sin Cara, Sheamus, Randy Orton and Primo Colon.

So there you go. That's what I suspect will happen on Monday night with the draft and then on the following nights in the Supplemental Draft. Lots of changes for both shows which might make things better. It might make them worse. But rest assured, it will shake things up and make it different for both shows.

And on that, I'm out of here, my friends. I hope you've enjoyed all four parts of my little column series about the 2011 WWE Draft. Thoughts, comments and opinions are welcome and can be sent to Doug28352@yahoo.com.

I'll see you on the go-around. I'm Doug and this has been "Tossing Salt - Worldwide News". Happy Easter.

Doug Maynard
The 2011 WWE Draft - Part 3

Back one more time and after taking a look at the roster of RAW in parts one and two, it's now time to focus my attentions to the roster of Smackdown. As we are all aware, this coming Monday night on RAW is the WWE 2011 Draft where RAW stars move to Smackdown, Smackdown stars move to RAW and no one is safe. And what I'm doing now is going over the entire Smackdown roster, one by one and attempting to decide if they're changing brands and travel schedules this upcoming week or will they be better suited to stay exactly where they already are, entertaining us on Friday nights on the SyFy network.

I'm Doug and this is (dramatic pause please)...

Tossing Salt is The WWE 2011 Draft - Smackdown...

Let's just jump right to it.

Alberto Del Rio

Right now, Del Rio is the big heel on the Smackdown brand and it's a really good place for him. He's doing a great job in helping to fill the void left by Edge's retirement and as often is said, if it's not broke, don't fix it. Del Rio is fine exactly where he is and should remain, for now, one of the top heels on Smackdown. He's safe.

Beth Phoenix

She's become a forgotten treasure on Smackdown. Beth needs to be brought back to RAW where she can regain her status as one of the top females in the WWE. I hope so anyhow. Drafted!

Big Show

He just became part of the tag team champions with Kane over on Smackdown, which means that technically, he can work on either show. That being said, it seems that Show is just a more natural fit for the Smackdown brand. I would leave him right exactly where he already is. Safe.

Booker T

Lawler is stale as an announcer on RAW. Booker is the new face in the announce booth and would add some new energy and life to the Raw announce position. I hope that he does come to RAW and gets paired with a returning Jim Ross. Yes, I said that! That would be a great combo and would be really good to listen to. Drafted.

Brodus Clay

The current role as the bodyguard / enforcer for Alberto Del Rio is perfect for this man-beast. Don't screw it up. Leave him exactly in the role he's currently performing. He should be safe.

Chavo Guerrero

I think Chavo has one more good run left in him and working the live, RAW show as a prominent mid-carder would be a great and positive move for the former ECW Champion. I'd like to see Chavo in matches against someone like Miz or Punk. And he could re-allign himself with Vickie. Excuse me! That would be great! Drafted!

Chris Masters

I remember when the "Masterpiece" was treated like a superstar and sucked big time in the ring. Now, he's turned into a pretty solid performer in the ring, but treated like a jobber and an after thought. Send him to RAW and allow him to use that "Masterlock" as a weapon to be feared once more. He has the potential to be a solid mid-card performer, but he'll need a change of enviroment to properly do it. Moving to RAW might just be that opportunity he's looking for. Drafted.

Christian

He's winning the World Championship (I hope) at the next PPV, so why would they want to move him? I'd love to see Christian as part of the RAW roster, but now is not the right time for that move. Leave him where he is and allow "Captain Charisma" to demonstrate to the WWE Universe, as well as the Peepulation just how good he really can be. He's safe.

Cody Rhodes

I'm really starting to dig this "Phantom of the Opera" routine with Cody. He's really starting to come into his own as a major star for the WWE. If he moves to RAW, there is a strong possibility that he may get lost in the shuffle, but I think he's ready to go and hold his own. I think he'll be moving to RAW. Drafted.

Curt Hawkins

Who? I remember a little push, but then nothing. And no matter where he goes at this point, I expect it will remain the same. Leave him alone. He's not going to survive the next group of mass firings anyhow. Safe.

Drew McIntyre

Drew has been ready to break out for a while, but his push has been start and stop. He's been kind of overshadowed at Smackdown by Cody and Del Rio and a change of atmosphere would probably serve him well. I think he's getting drafted to RAW.

Ezekiel Jackson

Big Zeke is just starting to live up to his potential and I can't see where a move at this point and time would be beneficial for the "leader" of the Corre. He stays put on Smackdown for the time being.

Heath Slater

I really like the way the the "One Man Rock Band" has developed since leaving NXT and becoming a part of the main roster for WWE. He's a talented young man with a big future ahead of him. I don't think it's time to split him and Gabriel up yet though, since they are easily one of the most fluid and proficient teams in WWE since the days of "The World's Greatest Tag Team" was around. For the time being, he should stay exactly where he is and continue to develop and get better without having to worry about being lost in the shuffle that is RAW. He's safe.

Hornswoggle

How does he still even have a job? I like Horny, but the joke got old a long time ago. I can't really see anything in the future for him, aside from the occasional comedy piece, regardless of what brand he's on. But I suspect that he'll be drafted to RAW, just to get his "reaction" on the live TV program. Drafted.

Jack Corpela

Who? One of the C-Level Announcers, I believe. He stays where he's at because he's just not important enough for anyone to notice or care about. Safe.

Jack Swagger

It looks as if the "All American American" is on the verge of another push and he well deserves it. The man has a great amateur background and a great look about him and can really perform in that ring. I think he's good on Smackdown, but I could see him being shuffled around a bit and becoming part of the RAW mix for a while. He could take over the Sheamus role on RAW, while Sheamus goes to Smackdown. Sounds like a plan to me. He's drafted.

Josh Matthews

Josh is already working both shows (just like Michael Cole - GROAN!) - so I don't think there's any way to really draft him. I'd love to see him become a permanent part of the RAW team (with JIm Ross and Booker T), so maybe it'll happen. But for now, his status on both shows remains exactly what it already is. Safe.

JTG

Poor JTG has been lost in the shuffle since the demise of Cryme Tyme and I don't see anything changing at any point in the near future. I had forgotten he was even on Smackdown, to be honest. I can see the WWE switching him, just to freshen up the undercard and make changes for the sake of making changes. He's going to RAW. Drafted.

Justin Gabriel

This man is probably my favorite of all the original Nexus members and his tag team with Heath Slater is as polished and good as it gets these days. He has some great skills and seems to get better and better each and every week. I don't think it's time just yet to split the team up or move Gabriel to RAW, where he'd probably get lost in the shuffle and regulated to "Superstars Hell" every week. For the time being, he needs to stay exactly where he is. Safe.

So there you go. The first half of the Smackdown roster has been analyzed and evaluated and decisions have been made. In my opinion, the following WWE Smackdown Superstars should end up being drafted to RAW on Monday night: JTG, Jack Swagger, Hornswoggle, Drew McIntyre, Cody Rhodes, Chris Masters, Chavo Guerrero, Booker T and Beth Phoenix. Staying safely and secure on Smackdown should be Alberto Del Rio, Brodus Clay, Big Show, Christian, Curt Hawkins, Ezekeil Jackson, Heath Slater, Jack Corpela, Josh Matthews and Justin Gabriel.

So what do you think? Am I right? Am I crazy? Let me know. And stick around because Part 4 of this series, with a look at the rest of the Smackdown roster, will be coming up very soon.

On that note, I'm closing this up. I'm Doug and "dat is all de' people need to know!" Until the next time, have a great one and always stay a fan. Happy Easter.

Tossing Salt - Worldwide News: April 23, 2011 (The WWE Draft - Part 2)

Tossing Salt - Worldwide News
April 23, 2011
Doug Maynard
The Draft - Part II

Back again with Part II of my four-part series taking a look at the upcoming WWE 2011 Draft, which is coming up on Monday Night RAW in just a couple of days. I'm Doug and this is...

Tossing Salt Is The WWE Draft - Part 2: WWE RAW

I've broke down the RAW and Smackdown rosters into two parts each and have gone down the list of Superstars, trying to determine if they should stay where they're at or else move to the other side, if you will. Let's recap.

So far, when looking at the first half of the RAW roster, I noted that Mark Henry, John Morrison, The Uso Brothers, Jerry Lawler, Evan Bourne, Gail Kim, David Otunga, David Hart Smith, Alicia Fox and Daniel Bryan are, in my opinion, ready for a change and could be best served by a move to the WWE's blue brand. And I'd have Alex Riley, CM Punk, Dolph Ziggler, The Bella Twins, Eve, Goldust, Husky Harris, Justin Roberts, John Cena, Maryse, Melina and Mason Ryan are safe and staying on RAW. Now let's move on to the second half of the WWE Raw Roster.

Michael McGillicutty

I would love to see the WWE drop the whole "McGillicutty" name and allow this talented young man to use his real name of "Hennig" and perhaps portray a modern day version of his father, a 2011 "Mr. Perfect". He's got the talent and skills. But for now, if they're going to stick with this name and character, he should stay on RAW as part of the new Nexus. No reason to change brands until they're ready to change any and every thing.

Michael Tarver

I keep forgetting that he's even a part of RAW anymore. He had his injury and then came back to stand around in the back at RAW tapings. And as of late, he doesn't even do that anymore. He's just a face in the crowd and no matter what they do, I think it'll stay that way. He stays on RAW just because no one remembers that he's there.

Natayla

I like her on RAW, so let's keep her there for now. Safe and staying on the Flagship show.

Nikki Bella

Her sister is the Diva Champion and where one sister goes, both go. Brie belongs on RAW and by association, Nikki does too. She stays on RAW.

Primo Colon

So much talent and so many moves, but so rarely used by the WWE. I'd like to see the Creative Teams find a place for Primo and give him a chance to show his stuff. But I don't think it'll happen on RAW, where he's destined to remain jobber to the stars. He needs a good move. DRAFTED.

R-Truth

I'm not a fan of Truth, but I do like the heel turn from this past week. And with that in mind, I'll give him some more time to show his stuff and stay on the flagship program. Truth staying on RAW - that's what's up!

Randy Orton

Here's where I'm going to stir some feathers. I do not care for Randy Orton's matches or character. He's popular right now, but I just don't get it. But then again, I don't get Cena either. Smackdown is weak on major-league babyfaces now that Edge is out of the picture. Christian is stepping up, but he can't be the only one. I'd send Randy to Smackdown and let him be the big face over there. He doesn't need the title so I'd let Christian and his peeps work that scene for now, but Orton could be the other "go to" guy for Smackdown. It'd be a great role for the one-time Legend Killer. He should be drafted.

Ranjin Singh

He goes where Khali goes, which is acting as a special attraction for both brands, For now though, his home remains RAW.

Santino

A RAW mainstay and I don't see any reason for that to change. He stays.

Scott Stanford

Who? I have no idea who this is, thus it matters not to me whether he's RAW, Smackdown, or whatever. Leave him where he is. He stays.

Sheamus

I love to watch the Celtic Warrior, fella. And I think he's a great talent that's going to have a big future in this business for a long time to come. But his push on RAW has been so hokey-pokey. He wins. No, he loses. He's a killer. No, he's an ass-clown. And now he's the U.S. Champion. The RAW writers can't seem to decide exactly what they want to do with the Human Jar of Mayonnaise. So let the Smackdown guys have a shot. I'd change him to the other brand. DRAFTED!

Sin Cara

He's new and exciting, but truthfully, he's an accident waiting to happen as well. Live TV is not this guys friend. Until he gets a better grasp on the WWE style and actually hitting his moves in the ring, I'd send him to Smackdown where his goofs can be fixed in editing rather than throwing him out there on live TV each week and just keeping the fingers crossed.

Skip Shefield

I'd like to see Skip go over to Smackdown. After he was injured, his "partners" in the old Nexus kind of forgot about him. It's time for he and Wade Barrett to have a reckoning. He's drafted.

Tamina

Put her back with the Uso's and send her to Smackdown. Drafted.

Ted DiBiase

This one is really hard to decide. Ted's career is falling fast, but I don't know if a change of venue is exactly what he needs or not. It worked for Cody (after a year of living in obscurity), but with Orton possibly headed over to the other brand, is there a place for Ted there as well. I think I'd leave him on RAW for the time being and just work on refreshing his character and rebuilding his career instead of trying to just pass the buck and move him. Ted says put on RAW.

Great Khali

He's a special attraction who can travel between brands anyhow, so it doesn't matter where he is. Khali stays on the RAW roster.

The Miz

The current WWE Champion stays on RAW. No if's, or's, but's, or doubts about it. Cause he's just that damn good. He's the Miz and he's... well, you know how it goes. He stays right where he's at.

Triple H

We rarely see HHH anymore, so does it matter. He stays because RAW is the big show and he's the big cheese. 'Nuff said!

Tyson Kidd

An exciting young talent who we rarely get to see perform, except for on the B-shows. I'd like to see him get a shot at attempting to rebuild his character a bit and they may as well reform the New Hart Foundation with David Hart Smith since neither has really done anything of note since their break-up as a team. So since I have Smith going to Smackdown, I think Kidd should go there as well, so they can regroup, reunite and get moving in the right direction again. Drafted!

Vickie Guerrero

Excuse me! I said excuse me! I love me some Vickie Guerrero and she's perfect exactly where she is. Vickie stays on RAW.

Vladimir Kozlov

Kozlov seems to have found a good role as Santino's partner and the muscle of the group. For now , leave it be. He stays on RAW.

William Regal

I wouldn't care where Regal is if they would actually let him wrestle more often. It looks to me as if Regal is beginning to wind down his career, doing announcing on the NXT program and possibly moving to become an agent in the next year or so. I watch RAW more than Smackdown, so I'd keep Regal on RAW just so I'd have more opportunities to see him make appearances. He stays on RAW.

Yoshi Tatsu

Yoshi seems to have become an NXT / Superstars mainstay rather than a force on the main roster, and that's a sad statement about the current shape of the WWE. RAW is too superstar heavy for a relatively younger guy to really get a push unless he has a special something about him. Yoshi just has his great wrestling skills. Thus, he'd be better off on Smackdown where the focus seems to be more about wrestling than just talking well and charisma. Yoshi has it, but Smackdown would just make a better stage for him to show it. So he gets drafted.

And there you go. I've taken the entire RAW roster, one by one, and placed them into two categories. Either going to Smackdown on Monday (or later in the supplemental draft) or else staying on RAW. Let's recap the entire list of RAW superstars and who stays and who goes.

Staying on RAW (in my opinion) are: Alex Riley, CM Punk, Dolph Ziggler, The Bella Twins, Eve, Goldust, Husky Harris, Justin Roberts, John Cena, Maryse, Melina, Mason Ryan, William Regal, Vladimir Kozlov, Vickie Guerrero, Triple H, The Miz, Great Khali, Ted DiBiase, Scott Stanford, Santino, Ranjin Singh, R-Truth, Natayla, Michael Tarver, and Michael McGillicutty.

And being drafted over to the brand that is Smackdown are: Mark Henry, John Morrison, The Uso Brothers, Jerry Lawler, Evan Bourne, Gail Kim, David Otunga, David Hart Smith, Alicia Fox, Daniel Bryan, Tyson Kidd, Tamina, Skip Shefield, Sin Cara, Sheamus, Randy Orton and Primo Colon.

And that's it for the roster of WWE RAW. I'll be back tomorrow with two more columns as I look at the talent that is Smackdown and do the same thing. Should they stay where they're at or should they head to the live, flagship program that is WWE Monday Night RAW. I can't wait to do that one.

And on that note, I'm out of here for now. I'm Doug and comments, thoughts, critiques, and dirty jokes can be sent to Doug28352@yahoo.com. I'll see you tomorrow. I'm down and I'm gone.

Tossing Salt - Worldwide News: April 23, 2011 (The WWE Draft -Part 1)

Tossing Salt - Worldwide News
April 23, 2011
Doug Maynard
"The Draft - Part I"

Greetings, my little Saltines. I'm Doug and guess what we're going to do? We're going to shake up the WWE, figuratively speaking of course, as it's never been done before. As you might be aware, Monday night is the 2011 WWE Draft, where Raw stars go to Smackdown, Smackdown stars go to RAW, and no one is safe. And what I want to do, in this four-part series, is go down the list, first for the entire RAW roster and then the entire Smackdown roster, and analyze each and every WWE Superstar. Who needs to be moved? Who needs to stay exactly where they are? And who are we unfortunately stuck with on both shows (Michael Cole). Doesn't that sound like loads and loads of fun? Of course it does. We're going to do RAW in two parts and then Smackdown in two parts and hopefully, have it all complete before the actual draft takes place on RAW Monday night. I love a challenge. So grab your seat and hang on because it's going to be a bumpy ride. This is...

Tossing Salt Is The WWE Draft - Part 1: WWE RAW...

And there's no reason to delay. Let's go down the roster, as listed by WWE.com, and decide who should stay and who should go.

Alex Riley

I love the role that Alex plays as the Miz's assistant and would love to see him continue in that role for the time being. That being said, Riley has really come a long way in the past year and could be a solid mid-card player for either roster, should the WWE choose to use him that way. I'd like to see him eventually break loose on his own, but now, in my opinion, is not the right time for it. Smackdown needs some major talent injections to beef up their roster, but I don't think Riley is quite the right person yet for that role. He stays on RAW.

Alicia Fox

No matter where Alicia goes, she's going to be an afterthought for the WWE Creative team and the fans. That's the price of being a WWE Diva these days, unless you just happen to be married to the Undertaker or named Hart. I can see her making the move. It won't help her standing in the company, but might freshen up the stale Diva division on the Smackdown side of things. Drafted to Smackdown.

Brie Bella

So which one is the Diva's champion and which one is just the helpful twin? It doesn't matter much because, despite their recent small push, the Bella Twins are a unit and where one goes, so does the other. I can see them teasing a Bella split, but in the end, both will stay on RAW and keep dishing out that Twin Magic. They stay on RAW.

CM Punk

Smackdown needs some major talent, but Punk and Orton still have miles to go with their feud. And who wouldn't like to see a Punk feud with the Miz? Punk is one of those performers who seems to really thrive on live TV and produces some great matches and promos. I think it may be teased, but Punk has already feuded with everyone of note on the Smackdown roster. There is just too much potential left on RAW to move him at this point. Punk stays on RAW.

Daniel Bryan

As good as Bryan is, his character is getting stale pretty quickly. He's squashed by Sheamus on a weekly basis and the WWE won't let him work with anyone that might result in show-stealing matches (Punk). So let him move to Smackdown and rebuild the character and image. It would add some fresh blood to the mix and be a good move for Bryan as well. Bryan gets drafted to Smackdown.

David Hart Smith

Is he even still a part of the WWE? I looked and he's still listed on the roster, even though he hasn't been seen in months. Does he have an injury? I don't know. But he's on RAW and not being used. So why not move him to Smackdown where he can not be used as well. I don't think it matters at this point. But Hart Smith still has some name value so they'll use him to make the claim that Smackdown is getting a strong build, even though, if past drafts are any indication, we all know better. David Hart Smith gets moved to Smackdown.

David Otunga

He's married to Jennifer Hudson. That's his plus side, even though the WWE hasn't really capitalized much on that as of late. He's a fair talker, but still a bit sloppy in the ring. Otunga's major role thus far has been as a member of Nexus, first with Wade Barrett and then with CM Punk. We haven't really had a chance to see what he's capable of as a singles character yet. So why not take the plunge and give him that chance to sink or swim with a move to Smackdown. He can resume his "A-List" character and play up his Hollywood connections. There is potential waiting to be exploited and now might just be the right time to do it. Otunga gets drafted to Smackdown.

Dolph Ziggler

Dolph just came to RAW a short time ago and even though I hate the new look (makes him too cookie-cutter and generic), he's just only started to make the impact that we all know he's capable of. To move him back to Smackdown this soon would be a travesty. Dolph stays on RAW.

Evan Bourne

He has some great moves and a great look, but he's so small and just wasted on RAW, except to be the number one jobber. A move to Smackdown would be great for Bourne and would open him up for some great matches against Christian, Rey Mysterio, etc., which would reek of awesomeness. He moves, via the DRAFT.

Eve

Doesn't matter where she goes because the Diva's switch brands regularly and are pretty much ignored on both. But I'd like to see her stay on RAW for the time being, if only to slap the taste out of Michael Cole's mouth and play up a feud with him once the Lawler thing dies out. She stays on RAW.

Gail Kim

Wherever the former Amazing Kong ends up is where Gail needs to be. They had some great matches in TNA and stole the show repeatedly and if they're matched up here in the WWE, they have the ability to do it again and totally reignite the WWE Divas Division. She's on RAW right now, but I have a feeling that they'll debut the former Kong on Smackdown, just to give her a chance to adapt to the WWE style before going on live TV. And with that in mind, Gail goes to Smackdown to welcome her old friend. Gail is drafted.

Goldust

Goldust has been out with an injury and word is that he's considering retirement and moving to an agent's position in the WWE. That being the case, his spot on the roster won't change unless it moves from active superstar to agent. He's safe and stays on RAW.

Husky Harris

Husky is, according to the storylines, still recovering from the punt kick by Randy Orton, but in reality, has been back down in developmental working for FCW. So I'm not sure what the future holds for this talented third generation superstar. He's got a unique, old-school look that I like and I can see some of his grandpa (Blackjack Mulligan) there when he steps into the ring. I hope he's called back up to the main roster sooner rather than later. As for where to go, a place in a group, like Nexus, is probably the best role for him at this point. So I'd keep him on RAW.

Jerry Lawler

Raw is Lawler and Lawler is RAW, but unless they're planning on bringing Jim Ross back full time to work with "The King" at the announce table, I think it's time to switch things up a bit. Send Jerry to Smackdown to work with Michael Cole and Josh Matthews. It'd add something new to the Smackdown announce table and might give Jerry some new fire since he'd be calling matches for different wrestlers than he usually does. It's time to teach an old dog some new tricks and that mght be the thing that would do it. Lawler gets drafted to Smackdown.

Jey Uso

Wasted on RAW, so move to Smackdown, where they at least regularly feature tag matches. It was a good move for his father, Rikishi, many years ago, and would be a good move for Jey and his brother as well and give them a chance to shine a little more often. Drafted to Smackdown.

Jimmy Uso

See what I said for Jey? The same applies here. Move to Smackdown and become a star. He's drafted.

John Cena

This is the WWE's go-to man and cash cow. There is no way that he's off the flasgship show, even if it's just temporary. I'd love to see him move (to Alaksa or China preferably), but that's not going to happen. Cena stays put exactly where he's at. Cena stays on RAW.

John Morrison

Morrison has been back and forth between brands so many times during his career, I don't think it really matters which brand he's on. Morrison is an up and down performer who just always seems to be on the brink of breaking that glass ceiling, bu tnever quite makes it. He's been on RAW now for a while though and it just seems that he's become kind of stagnate and stale. I'd move him. Drafted.

Justin Roberts

The ring announcer stays put. 'Nuff said!

Mark Henry

It seems that as of late, The World's Strongest Man has been more of the World's Strongest Afterthought on RAW. He gets a great reaction from the live crowd when he performs and, in my opinion, could really be pushed as a big monster. Could you imagine a heel tag team of Mark Henry and Ezekiel Jackson, with someone like a Michael Cole or maybe Shawn Daivari (would love to see him back in the WWE) as their spokeperson or manager? Scary thought, isn't it? Henry needs to be freshened up a bit with the character and a move to the Smackdown roster might be just what the doctor ordered. DRAFTED.

Maryse

I don't think the egos of Maryse and Michelle McCool could be on the same roster for too long. And their looks are far too similar. So Maryse stays on RAW. She's safe.

Mason Ryan

Another young up and comer that is better as part of a group at this point than attempting to be a solo star. I like him in his current role as CM Punk's enforcer and muscle and as I often hear, if it's not broke, don't fix it. For the time being, until he can get some more experience under his belt, I'd leave him exactly where he is. Ryan stays on RAW.

Melina

It's hard to really say anything about Melina because we all know what she's capable of in that ring, but her character is just so stale these days. She's been a face and she's been a heel and right now, she's at the point that no matter what she does, no one cares. When the next surge of firings and "wishing well in future endevours" happens, I expect her name will be at the top of the list. But for now, does she stay at RAW and be ignored or else go to Smackdown and be ignored? Doesn't really matter, I guess. I expect she'll stay at RAW for the time being.

And there you go, my friends. One half of the WWE Raw Roster, with twenty-three Superstars given the quick analysis in regards to where they belong in the upcoming months. And to recap, I'm thinking that thus far, it will be Mark Henry, John Morrison, The Uso Brothers, Jerry "The King" Lawler, Gail Kim, Evan Bourne, David Otunga, David Hart Smith, Daniel Bryan and Alicia Fox are changing rosters and headed to the blue team. That's eleven so far. Who else will join them? We'll find out in Part II.

And that's it for me, for now I guess. I'll get to Part II of the WWE Raw roster in just a few hours, so look for it later today.

Comments and thoughts are wlecome and appreciated, so give me a holla at Doug28352@yahoo.com. I'm Doug and in the words of the legendary Baron Von Raschke, "dat is all 'de people need to know". Until the next time, let's keep on keeping on.

Tossing Salt Is Smackdown: April 22, 2011

Tossing Salt Is Smackdown
April 22, 2011
Doug Maynard

How long has it been since I've done a recap of Smackdown? How long has it been since I've actually watched Smackdown? It's been a while for both. but tonight, that gets rectified. I'm Doug and this is "Tossing Salt Is Smackdown". Are you ready to do this? I think I am, so let's get to scooting and booting. It's time to layeth the Smackdown.

The hosts are Sir Michael Cole, Josh Matthews and "I used to be a King" Booker T. All hail, King Booker! And it's coming live on tape from London, England. Let's do it.

We open with a recap of Edge announcing his retirement, complete with a video package that reeks of awesomeness. Once again, I must say, "Thank you Edge!" And then it's a replay of the Battle Royal from last week to see who goes to Extreme Rules to face Alberto Del Rio for the WWE Championship. Christian wins and the Peepulation around the world rejoices. Should be a great match and let's hope the right man wins.

Lots of pyro to start and the crowd is hot! Later tonight, Alberto Del Rio is holding a retirement party for Edge. We see the World Championship belt hanging above the ring. It's Championship night. It's Slater and Gabriel defending the tag titles against Big Show and Kane, plus Wade Barrett defends the IC title against Kofi Kingston. Lots of boos and jeers as "Sir" Michael Cole comes to the ring. I think he's wearing Booker's old "King Booker" robe. All Hail Sir Michael. Nah, just doesn't have the same ring to it. Booker says that Cole has lost his damn mind and I agree.

Cody Rhodes is here and starts off with a promo and a bunch of bags. The mask he wears is for protection while Rey wears one to hide something. Rey is hiding his fears, loathing thoughts for the fans and because he's ashamed of himself. Cody says that the fans wear masks as well and he can see through them because they envy Cody and have miserable lives. They want it to be worse for everyone else and they have contempt for all. Cody has something for all the fans. He has masks made from paper bags for all the fans. He has his assistants hand out the bag masks to all the fans. The fans want and need them. And four guys in the front row are actually wearing them. Wahat goofs! It's so the fans can cover their lying eyes and faces. Cody wants everyone to cover their face until he hopefully is drafted off the show or defeats Rey Mysterio tonight. Cody calls out Rey and says that this mask is for you. You know what? I keep expecting to see Cody break out into the song "Music Of The Night" at any moment now. A very Phantom of the Operaish promo by the "Grandson of a Plumber", if you will.

And here comes Rey Mysterio. It's match time.

Wrestlemania 27 Rematch
Cody Rhodes versus Rey Mysterio

Cody with punches and kicks to start. Rey with the comeback and some kicks, sends Cody to the floor and follows up with a leap and a kick. And we go to commercial. Did you know that the 2011 WWE Draft is on Monday? Well, it is.

We come back and Cody is stomping a mudhole on Rey before following up with a choke and more kicks. Rey comes back with a butt-drop for two. Cody with a great "Shades of Lex Luger meets Vampiro" torture rack slam for two. Cody wraps Rey around the ringpost and inflicts some damage. Back into the ring and the "Dashing One" with some fists. Rey witha knee to the face and some fighting on the apron. Cody kicks Rey into the ringpost and Rey falls to the floor. And we get another commerical break. What the...??? "Just call me Angel of the morning!" Love that "Highlander" commercial. And now, back to the action.

We're back again and Cody has Rey's head locked up ina submission hold. Rey with fists, but Cody hits a power-slam and a stomp, followed by a knee. A hard face-first whip into the corner and Cody with a headbutt for two. It's all Cody at this point with a big beatdown in the corner. Rey on the top and Cody pounds away. Rey pushes him off and starts to fly. It's Rey with the comeback and Cody with a knee and a roll for two. Rey has taken the advantage as he goes upstairs. Cody with a big dropkick for two. A borderline low kick by Cody, but Rey counters with a victory roll for the pin.

Winner: Rey Mysterio

Cody is the sore loser and goes after Rey with the sneak attack, sending him to the floor before whipping him repeatedly into the ringside barrier. Cody slings Rey into the crowd and follows. Rey fights back and both men flip over the ringside barrier to the floor. Rey eats steel steps and he's down. Rey shoves Cody to the floor and they fight into the audience. More brawling as they head back to the ring. Cody with headbutts and a neckbreaker on the floor. Cody takes the bag-mask and puts it on Rey's head.

Still to come: Kofi Kingston takes on Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett and Big Show & Kane take on Slater and Gabriel for the Tag Titles. And Alberto Del Rio throws a retirement party for Edge. It's all coming up. Plus Hornswoggle eats hot dogs. Okay, forget about that last one. But the rest will happen. It's true. It's damn true! (Don't tweet me, Kurt!)

Rev. Theory sings "Justice" for Extreme Rules. So buy the song.

Justin Gabriel and Wade Barrett are in the back and discussing the Battle Royal from last week. Heath Slater brings up unity for the Corre. Zeke calls himself the leader, but no one thinks it's funny. Lots of jokes and they appear unified. But are they? We go to see LayCool do some therapy from last week in a video replay. And then Michelle costs Layla a match against Kelly Kelly on TV. They went back to therapy and naturally, we have a camera filming it all.

More comedy and bickering. Layla wants respect and Michelle says that Layla might not even be "flawless". Layla cries and Michelle gives her a McBeatdown before stalking off.

Did you know that WWE uses a lot of props and equipment. 79 trucks worth at Wrestlemania. Wow! And five of those were just for Steve Austin's beer.

Michael Cole decides to talk. He shows a replay of the beatdown and attack on Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross from Monday night. Cole is a happy camper. We also get to see a replay of Cole getting "knighted" and giving the "Queen" a royal lip-lock. Hilarious! Cole introduces Jack Swagger to the ring.

Jack Swagger versus Trent Barreta

Swagger with tackles and kicks. A "Vader" splash and some slaps to the head. Trent tries to fight back with a kick and some elbows. Swagger gets the ankle lock and Barreta taps to give the "All American American" the victory in an easy squash.

Winner: Jack Swagger

We see the Big Show making an appearance on the Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards. From backstage, Big Show and Kane are headed towards the ring.

We see another awesome vignette for the one-time "Awesome Kong", coming soon to the WWE.

WWE Tag Team Championship Match
Champions Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater (The Corre) versus The Big Show & Kane

Justin & Heath have Big Zeke with them as they come to the ring. Kane starts off with Slater and Kane just dominates with power moves and a kick for two. Show tags in and it's chop-suey city. Show sits on Slater before tagging Kane in. Slater clips the leg and tags Gabriel in. Kane with a big punch and a side-slam and dominates. Kane goes upstairs, but Zeke interferes and causes Kane to fall down and go boom. Slater with knees and the dreaded chinlock of doom. Double-team by Slater and Gabriel for two.

Gabriel with the front facelock onKane. Kane with the punches, but Justin scores with a shot for two. Slater in and he flies, but Kane catches him with a punch. Show tags in and cleans house. Show throws Gabriel to the floor and Kane nails Zeke. Show with the chokeslam on Slater for the pin and we have new champs.

Winners and NEW Tag Team Champions: Kane and The Big Show

Coming up, Wade Barrett defends against Kofi Kingston and Alberto Del Rio throws a party for Edge. Should be fun so stick around. Coming up on Monday is the Draft.

We see Gabriel and Slater in the back and they're blaming Zeke for their loss. He tells them to look in the mirror, especially Slater. Slater and Gabriel have a brief exchange and Slater nails Justin with a punch.

Drew McIntyre versus "The Masterpiece" Chris Masters

Drew with kicks and punches. Chris goes for the Masterlock, but Drew escapes and Chris eats turnbuckle. Chris nails Drew, but Drew fights back, catching Chris on the top rope and getting a two count. Stomps by McIntyre and some shots in the corner. Drew gets a two count. Masters with the roll-up for a two of his own. Both men are down as it goes back and forth. Chris with the clothesline and an elbow. A big shoulder and Chris goes for the Masterlock, but Drew escapes with the jawbreaker. Drew with the "Future Shock DDT" to get the pin and win.

Winner: Drew McIntyre

WWE Superstars talk about the Wrestlemania Reading Challenge and encourage everyone to read. Remember, R.I.F. (Reading Is Fundamental) - cause if you can't read, you can't read my fics and recaps at www.tsfiction.blogspot.com or my fantasy wrestling at www.nwawcwreborn.blogspot.com. Yeah, that's a cheap plug for my writing sites. Check them out. And thanks!

Did you know that the WWE has a lot of friends on Facebook. And so do I at www.facebook.com/saltpalace. But I want more, so add me.

RAW REBOUND: A look back at Monday night. R-Truth gets smoked by John Morrison and returns the favor (literally). Just call R-Truth "Smokey" from now on. Morrison is now part of the triple-threat match at WWE Extreme Rules.

And we see a replay of the Cody Rhodes post-match brawl from earlier tonight with Rey Mysterio. Rey gets bagged. At Extreme Rules, it's Rey versus Cody in a "Fall's Count Anywhere" match.

Intercontinental Championship Match
Champion Wade Barrett versus Kofi Kingston

Wade comes to the ring and he has Zeke with him. After what happened earlier with Slater and Gabriel, I'm not sure how smart that is. Kofi starts off with kicks and elbows. Wade with the elbow and he just pounds the mess out of Kofi. Wade with the clubbering from outside the ring. Kofi with a kick and he backflips off the apron as we head into commercial.

We come back and Wade is stretching Kofi. Zeke tries for some clubbering, but Kofi moves and Zeke nails Barrett by mistake. Told you it wasn't a good move to have him out there. Wade nails Kofi with a big kick and tells Zeke to go away. Zeke bails to the back and Kofi takes advantage by rolling up Wade for a two count. Kofi is in charge and hits all his signature moves before scoring with the "Boom Drop". Kofi calls for Trouble In Paradise, but Wade ducks it and tries to score by taking Kofi on a trip to Wasteland. Kofi blocks it and Wade stumbles back into the corner. A big kick by Wade. Kofi tries for a roll-up, but Wade blocks it by grabbing the ropes and manages to score the win to retain his title.

Winner and STILL Champion: Wade Barrett

Up next, Alberto Del Rio presents Edge's retirement party. Did you know that the Draft is coming up on Monday? Well, now you do.

Back from commercial and Alberto Del Rio and Brodius Clay are in the ring, which has been decorated with yellow balloons, a black cover for the mat, and several items covered it black cloths. It's time for Let's Make A Deal. No, it's not Monty Hall. It's Alberto Del Rio, but you already know that. He has some very special presents for Edge and his retirement.

Up first, Del Rio reveals a grandfather clock. This is so Edge can watch his life just tick away. Tick Tock Tick Tock. Up next, Del Rio shows that he's sympathetic to the medical problems that Edge might have with bladder control, so he has for him some adult diapers. Del Rio also points out that when someone retires, few things matter more than friends, so Del Rio has an old friend of Edge's... here is "Lita".

Wow! I guess Lita's been hitting the buffet table quite a bit since her departure from the WWE. Just kidding! A hugenormous woman with red hair comes out to Lita's music. Poor Brodius looks sick watching her. Del Rio tells "Lita" that she's never looked better. Personal thought here: Since they decided to have Del Rio bring Lita's name into the feud, wouldn't it be great to have the real Lita show up at Extreme Rules and be in Christian's corner? Since her name is forever linked to Edge's, for good or bad, why not take advantage and use her to thwart Del Rio's plans and help Christian win the title. Just a thought there. OK, back to the recap.

After "Lita" shows up, Del Rio reveals his next gift for Edge... a walker. OK, that's lame. And finally, Del Rio presents his final gift. We see Ricardo come out on a power scooter, complete with an oxygen tank. We even get some Edge-style pyro for the moment. Look at Brodius. He's cracking a smile back there standing behind Del Rio. Funny. And the scooter comes complete with a handicapped parking pass, all courtesy of Alberto Del Rio, or as he calls himself, "The Essence of Excellence".

Edge is here and he comes out. The crowd goes nuts. He tells Del Rio that he sent an RSVP via the Facebook and gets a cheap pop by mentioning England. Edge says that Del Rio sucks and is a lousy party host. Edge steals a poopy page from John Cena by calling "Lita" a flaming bag of poop. Del Rio is quickly frustrated and sends Clay out to take out Edge. Clay makes it about half-way up the ramp, but here's Christian with a ladder and he nails Clay from behind. Del Rio goes after Christian and he feels the power of the Peep's as well as Christian lays him out. Christian takes the ladder and goes to the ring and climbs the ladder, taking down the World Championship belt that has been hanging there all night. We close out with Christian holding the belt.

A good show and far better than what the WWE tried to pass off for us on Monday night. Everything moved along well and had a purpose. If I had known Smackdown had gotten this much better, I'd been watching and recapping a long time ago. A very good show.

And that's it for me. I'll be back when you see me again, no sooner and no later, so look for it. I'm Doug and I'm out of here for now. Until the next time, "dat is all de' people need to know!". Ubuntu!

McMahon Does Apprentice

Had an idea for a story - Vince McMahon taking over a successful NBC show on Sunday nights. Not sure where to go with it, but the idea kept nagging at me so... This might be continued or might now. But the seed for the idea has been planted. Vince replacing "The Donald".... Hmmmmmm!!

Disclaimer: Everyone owns themselves and I own no one. It's just a fic.

**

Vince McMahon was sitting in his office going over budget reports for WWE.

"Austin's only been back for four months and our alcohol budget has increased by 160%", Vince groaned. "I may have to fire a Diva or two to make up the difference in our budgets."

Suddenly, Vince felt a tingling in his spine and a major pain shoot through his head.

"It's my Vinnie-sense", he thought to himself. "Major annoyance fixing to occur!"

And as if on cue, the intercom on his desk buzzed.

"Mr. McMahon, your daughter Stephanie is here to see you."

"Send her in", Vince sighed as he reached into his desk and opened a bottle of tylenol. "Maybe she won't stay long!"

"Hi daddy", Stephanie said as she came into the room.

"Hello Princess", Vince smiled as he stood up and gave his daughter a kiss on the cheek. "So what brings you to my office today?"

"Well, I was just in the building with the girls and felt like stopping by", Stephanie said.

"Where are my little angels today?, Vince asked

"Don't worry. Kane is looking after them and teaching them how to blow up Hornswoggle", Steph said with a smile.

"Kane is teaching them what...?", Vince asked.

"Kane keeps placing Hornswoggle on the top turnbuckle and then igniting the flames. The girls love it!", Steph giggled.

"I doubt Hornswoggle likes it very much though", Vince sighed. "But so long as my granddaughters are having fun, it's all right."

"And also, Daddy... I had an idea", Stephanie said.

"Oh Lord, here it comes", Vince thought to himself as he forced himself to smile. "And what is that, Princess."

"Well, I've been watching the news and you've seen how Donald Trump seems to be positioning himself to run for President..."

"I've spoken to Donald several times and he is considering that option", Vince noted. "So what?"

"Well", Steph said. "If Donald runs for office, that means he won't be doing Celebrity Apprentice anymore, right?"

"No, he wouldn't have time, plus the equal time campaign laws would force him to quit that show.", Vince agreed.

"So why don't you take over that job, Daddy", Steph asked. "It'd be a great role for you and you do love to fire people."

"I don't necessarily love it", Vince said. "But sometimes, it has to be done!"

"Think about it", Steph said. "The WWE already dominates USA Network and SyFy. Why not have a strong WWE presence on Sunday night too at NBC? It's a natural role for you. You're a billionaire. You're well known and have a great television presence. And you love to fire people."

"I don't love to fire... okay, I do love to line people up, get right into their face and scream at them those magic words", Vince said.

"Do it for me, Daddy", Steph said, clapping her hands in excitement.

Vince smiled for a moment and then got that deranged look in his eyes, the mixture of comtempt and disgust... and bellowed out...

"You're FIRED!"

"I love it when you do that", Steph smiled.

"I do too, Steph", Vince admitted. "I do too!"

"So what do you think about my idea", Steph asked.

"I'm not sure", Vince admitted. "I'm so busy with the WWE and your Mom is considering another run for the U.S. Senate seat. There is so much to consider. Plus, we don't even know for sure if Donald is going to run for President and give up the show or not."

"Call him and just suggest it", Steph said. "If Donald does give up the show, you can take over and it'll stay successful and you'll both make money. He always likes to make money and you're the only one who could possibly follow in his footsteps on that show."

"I'll call him tonight, but no promises", Vince said.

"Good", Steph smiled. "Now I'd better get down there and rescue Kane from the girls before they decide to blow him up."

"All right, Princess", Vince said. "I'll call you later tonight after I talk to Donald."

"Bye Daddy", Steph said and with a quick kiss to her father's cheek, Stephanie McMahon left the room.

"Me hosting Celebrity Apprentice?", Vince laughed. "That would be a hoot!"

Vince reached over and hit the buzzer for his secretary.

"Janice, please get me a list of the rosters for both shows. I feel like firing someone today!"

Vince clicked off the intercom system.

"Yeah, me on the Celebrity Apprentice, taking over Donald's job. I could see that!"

And Vince gave an evil, sinister smile.

(The End... Maybe?)
