(Flashback) Tossing Salt - December 17, 2003

Tossing Salt - 12/17/03

What up, my friends and welcome once again to another edition of "Tossing Salt!". From deep down in the dark and dingy basement of Wrestling Informer HQ, I'm the resident degenerate and salt tosser, Doug M. It's a cold and miserable day here at the Dojo of Info. It's been raining all day, and I've been dragging around all day. I just can't seem to get myself motivated. So, I decided this would be a good time to plop myself down in front of the "computer from hell" and try to come up with a few words of wisdom for all the Informants out there. I've found a few things to speak on. It's a slow news day on the net, but I've scrounged through all the sites I hold near and dear and came up with a couple of things.

Plus, I have more quotes from Jim Cornette. No wrestling results from Japan for today, but it's the middle of the week, and the holiday season as well. I expect things will be picking up soon enough.

I did have a weird dream this past week in regards to Wrestlemania XX that I want to tell you all about. Did I say dream? More like a vision of what would make for the "ultimate Wrestlemania moment" if it was to happen. So, with all that in mind, let's get this bad mama-jama going and start off with some:

ASSORTED SPICES:

First of all, I want to send a shout out to the Wrestling Informer's own diva, Jessica Spencer. Happy Birthday! Love the columns and think you're a helluva talent with a great insight to the world of wresting. Good stuff. Hope your birthday is fantastic and here's wishing you many many more to come. Lots of love to ya.

Also, a quick shout to the "Dirtside Maniac", Joshua. Love to read your stuff and look forward to the new ones every week. Yeah, it's too bad that my beloved didn't win the Women's title, but as you said, she got a little PPV time. That's always a good thing. Plus, she's against Victoria on this weeks edition of Heat, so I have something to look forward to. Keep up the great work.

Kenzo Suzuki released a statement to the Japanese press that says he will be starting with the WWE in Mid-January. I haven't heard any kind of official statement by the WWE on this particular matter though. But I figure he'll be a part of the "Japanese Maffia" on SmackDown. He told the media that he hopes to wrestle against Brock Lesnar.

And his wife, Hiroko Nizuma, apparently has some delusions about becoming a WWE diva. I've seen some pictures, and she's not bad looking. But we already have Gail Kim handling the Asian-beauty market, so I don't really think that Hiroko really stands a snowballs chance to actually becoming a WWE diva. Of course, stranger things have happened. Sable got hired after coming around the WWE events with her husband at the time, Marc Mero. And from what I understand, Hiroko can actually wrestle so anything is possible.

The DVD of the Rock's movie "The Rundown" is scheduled to be released on March 23. It's actually a really great movie. I enjoyed it a great deal, and was suprised it didn't do any better at the box office. It couldn't have been because of the Rock, so I'll just blame the films lack of success on his co-star Seann William Scott. He's a great "Stiffler", but needs to leave the more serious roles to others. Anyhow, the DVD is coming out, so get it. You won't be sorry.

Has anyone heard anything? WIll Pete Rose be at Wrestlemania XX? It just wouldn't be Wrestlemania without him. He's as much a part of the event as Hulk Hogan, "Mean Gene", and overpriced hot dogs and beer! Besides, if he's not there, who will Kane have to chokeslam to hell? That's just a thought.

TNA looks like they will be getting a cable TV deal with WGN, starting in Mid-January. From what I've heard, they (TNA) will be paying TNA roughly an estimated $50,000 a week for TNA to air their weekly TV show. TNA is not making any money as it is. They're losing money every week on the PPV. But maybe this will be what they need to attract more viewers to the weekly PPV's, and turn TNA into a legitimate # 2 promotion, rather than just the posers they seem to be now. They have the talent. They have all the tools, but just need some mass exposure and a cable outlet to really take them to the next level..

I'm not sure if WGN is the place though? It's got about 90% coverage of the nation, so that's good, but it just seems like a rinky-dink operation compared to USA Network, TNN, or the Turner stations. But beggars can't be choosers and it can't hurt. Maybe the addition of TNA will be what it takes to make WGN change their image, much like the addition of the WWE helped turn "The Nashville Network" into first TNN, and then Spike TV. It will certainly help bring some new viewers to WGN. That's for sure.

The Blue Boy's favorite ex-porn star, Jasmin St. Claire has announced the formation of "Jasmin St. Claire, Inc.". Stock is already available for IPO, and will be available on NASDAQ very soon. I can't imagine what kind of stock offerings Ms. St. Claire could be offering. I'm scared to click on the link and find out. But if anyone is interested, go check out www.parelations.com.

JIM CORNETTE QUOTE OF THE NIGHT:
Shane McMahon: I didn't know Chyna and Mark are dating?
Cornette: Neither does Chyna?

THE DREAM:

It's not so much a dream, as perhaps a vision. I often have strange dreams. That's not too unusual. And sometimes, wrestling is involved. That's not too strange either, as I spend a few hours every day involved with wrestling in some capacity, whether it be my work here at the Informer, my moderater roles with two yahoo chat groups, or my general bitching and fussing in five other groups, plus my daily editions of the "Time Warp". But I had the dream. Here it is.

Wrestlemania XX. The show is about halfway done. Vince McMahon has just beaten Stone Cold Steve Austin. (It's a dream..remember? In reality, Austin will kick Vince's butt!) He's in the middle of the ring, and he's happy. He's bragging. He's in full Mr. McMahon mode and he's on top of the world. Nothing could bring him down.

Then - we see a shining glitter ball appear on the Titantron. Vince barely notices, and then it starts.. the theme music of "the Disco Inferno". He comes down the ramp on the way to the ring, white leisure suit and all. He climbs in the ring, and grabs the microphone from Vince. Vince just stands there, slackjawed as Disco tells the Wrestlemania crowd that the only reason they came to Wrestemania was to see the Disco Inferno dance.

Vince is pissed and grabs the mic. "Who the hell do you think you are?", Vince bellows. Disco looks at Vince. gives him a kick to the stomach, and tosses him to the hard concrete floor. The music starts, and Disco starts to dance. And then I wake up. What does it mean? No more meals right before going to bed, I guess. But wouldn't that be a absolute "Kodak moment"? The Disco Inferno at Wrestlemania? That would be something I don't think anyone would ever be able to forget.

JIM CORNETTE QUOTE OF THE NIGHT # 2:
Cornette: A little technical difficulty?
Shane: You think so?
Cornette: Either that or I have a brain tumor.

And that's going to do it for this edition "Tossing Salt". Sorry for the shortness, but don't worry - it won't always be this way. The end of the year is coming very soon. I'm planning on doing something a little special for the end of the year column. I just haven't really decided what yet.

Also, my 50th edition of "Tossing Salt" is coming up soon as well. I think I'm on # 41 or 42 right now. Who would have ever thought it would have lasted this long? Not I? And I want to send a shout out to Brad Casey, the man with the plan here at the Wrestling Informer for making it happen. I don't say it often enough, but thank you for everything.

A little personal note here. I do a little daily thing now called "The Time Warp" which evolved from this column. It's pretty much just a little listing of some of the events that have taken place each day. Some are wrestling related and some are not. But I post it every morning for my chat groups. If anyone is interested in getting "The Time Warp" in their mailboxes each morning, let me know and I'll put you on my mailing list. And that's pretty much it.

If you have any comments or questions, give me a holler at either Doug28352@yahoo.com or at DougMaynard@wrestlinginformer.net. Later all. I'm Doug M. Until next time, take it light.
