(Flashback) Tossing Salt - January 3, 2004

Tossing Salt - 1/03/04

What up all? I'm Doug M. and it's time once again to do that one little thing that made the infamous Mr. Fugi such an unique superstar - time to do a little "Tossing Salt!" I hope that everyone had a great holiday season. Mine went pretty well, but now it's time to put the nose back to the grindstone and get back into the daily grind.

So it's time to take a little journey deep into the basement of the Wrestling Informer HQ and enter the Dojo of Info to see what the Saltmeister, the Sensei of Spices and all around degenerate, me, has in store for you today. I've got loads of wrestling results. Three big shows in Japan on New Year's Eve, two big Mid-Atlantic Championship wrestling events in China, and some stuff from All Japan as well.

Plus a little talk about TNA & Vince Russo, JImmy Hart, The ICP, and Justin Credible. Doing the "Quote of the Night" thingees will be none other than the original bad guy, Scott "Razor Ramon" Hall. And I've got something new that I "borrowed" from my friends Suzie and Jenn - a little guessing thingee called "Who Am I?". As always, it's a packed load. Plus expect a few cheap plugs, a shout out or two, and who knows what else. When it comes to "Tossing Salt", anything is possible. With that in mind, let's move to the groove with some:

ASSORTED SPICES:

According to sources in TNA, President Dixie Carter offered Vince Russo an opportunity to return to the TNA booking committee now that negotiations with Hulk Hogan have apparently reached a standstill. Russo turned Carter down, saying he's not interested in working with Jeff Jarrett. Insiders expect the key to a reconcilliation between Russo and Jarrett could lie in Glen Gilberti who is both a member of the booking committee and close to both men. I really don't blame Russo for being upset at Jarrett. Russo had been a part of TNA almost since Day 1 - but as soon as the "Immortal" Hulk Hogan showed up, Russo got the boot. There's a thing called "loyalty" that Jarrett needs to think about. And now, Hogan and Hogan-crony Jimmy Hart have given TNA the cold shoulder, and now TNA wants Russo back. I've been saying since the first day that rumors of a TNA agreement with Hogan were talked about - it wasn't going to go through. Hogan wants Wrestlemania XX. He wants the big money of the WWE and not the little pittance that TNA offers. Since the "Bound For Glory" PPV has been indefinitely postponed, JImmy Hart has not been seen at a TNA event or booking meeting. They got what they wanted from TNA - a little free publicity and noteriety - and Hart and Hogan are laughing their asses off while TNA picks up the pieces from this entire fiasco. Russo and Jarrett will make peace eventually. They're both too talented and too smart to let the hard feelings last very long. But Russo has every right to be upset. And I hope that he gets a big bonus when he does come back for having to put up with this whole pile of crap.

Speaking of TNA, none other than Eminem's favorite rap duo - Shaggy 2 Dope and Violent Jay - The Insane Clown Posse will be bringing their Dark Carnival of Faygo soda and Juggalos to the NWA-TNA show on January 7th, when TNA returns to live PPV. They're really not much so far as wrestlers go, but they always bring excitement and an air of chronic weirdness to any event the ICP is a part of, so that's something to look forward to.

There is a great deal of talk that the Ultimo Dragon, who is currently wrestling for the WWE will ask for an early release from his WWE contract to return to Japan and Mexico. He came to the WWE with two goals in mind. Working a show at Madison Square Garden and being a part of Wrestlemania XX.

The Dragon has achieved one part -that being wrestling at MSG, but it becomes more unlikely each and every day that the 2nd part will ever happen. The Dragon has been misused by the WWE since day 1. He is a true international superstar who has headlined card after card in Japan and Mexico. He is main event all the way. But he comes to the WWE, and he's stuck wrestling Orlando Jones or A-Train on Velocity. That's almost the same as bringing in Sting over at New Japan and sticking him in the opening match against Super Delfin. It just shouldn't happen that way.

Dragon should be feuding with Eddie Guerero or Tajiri - he should be teaming with Benoit as a tag team champion. Not wrestling in opening matches on Velocity. I hope the WWE decided to allow Dragon to have his early release. If they're not going to use him correctly, allow him to travel back overseas where they know how to treat superstars.

Justin Credible has been removed from all events scheduled for All Japan during the month of January. No reason was given for this action, but he is still scheduled to participate in the February All Japan events, so it was probably just a travel glitch or something of that manner.

SCOTT HALL QUOTE OF THE NIGHT # 1:
"So what I want right now is for that fake-haired midget, that pretty boy WCW lackey, that WCW Ken Doll Eric Bischoff.... to drag his broken down ass down here, 'cause the Wolfpac has a little business they want to take care of with him."

SCOTT HALL QUOTE OF THE NIGHT # 2:
(To Larry Zbyszko)
"You don't want none of the Wolfpac. You couldn't even beat my man, Easy-e, Eric Bischoff."

SCOTT HALL QUOTE OF THE NIGHT # 3:
(To Tony Schiavone)
"Hey Tony, you'd better hit the stairmaster if you want to talk about my health!"

WHO AM I???

The object to this is really simple. I'll give four or five clues to the identity of a wrestling personality - and you, the reader - get a chance to try and guess who I'm talking about. Suzie Q. and Jenn (what up, you two?) started this in one of our chat groups (wwefanzzone@yahoogroups.com) and it's a lot of fun. So I decided to borrow it and give it a shot here at Tossing Salt as well. It's all for fun right now and I'll include the answer in my next edition of "Tossing Salt". But if this goes well, I may start offering some little token prize to the person who responds first with the correct answer. We'll have to see on that though. Here goes:

I started off as a wrestling photographer for several magazines. I even served as Editor-in-Chief of "Double Action Wrestling" before assuming managerial duties for a team in the National Wrestling Federation called the "Motor City Madmen". As a manager, I worked all across the United States in Memphis, the AWA, and finally in WCW where I also served as a color commentator. While in WCW, I managed such stars as Rick Rude, Steve Austin, Arn Anderson, and Larry Zbyszko. I lost an arm wrestling contest on National televison to Missy Hyatt and decided it was time to move on. I moved to a small organization operating out of Philadelphia, PA. I quickly assumed booking duties and eventually became the owner of this group, giving it a new name and identity in the process. The rest is history. Who Am I?

If you think you know the answer, drop me a line at either of my two e-mail addresses at the end of the column. I want to send a quick shout out to my friend, Brent up in CT. Did you get my package I sent? Let me know what you think. Theresa, up in Hardy-ville, USA - it was great talking to you the other night - and I miss ya much.

And if you're interested in being part of a fantastic chat group at Yahoo - come check us out at DXSuckit@yahoo.groups.com and I'll hook you up. I guess I'm going to end this for now, If you have any questions or comments or the answer to the "Who Am I?" thingee, drop me a line at either Doug28352@yahoo.com or DougMaynard@wrestlingInformer.net.

Also, I have a little thing every day called the "Time Warp". If you'd like to see it in your mailbox every morning, just let me know and I'll see it that you'll recieve it. Thanks again to Brad & the entire staff here at the Wrestling Informer for making this all possible. Thanks to you readers to keeping "Tossing Salt" alive and well. I'll see you tommorow night with the WWE Sunday Night Heat Recap. Until next time, I'm Doug M. Happy New Year and take it light
