Tossing Salt - 10/06/03

What up folks? Here is my latest column for the Wrestling Informer - to be posted later today. I just figured, as always, I'd give all the fine people in my group a sneak -peek. Hope ya like..
-Doug
What's up? Welcome to the Wrestling Informer. It's time for a little "Tossing Salt - Wrestling From the Land of the Rising Sun". Todays date is 10/06/03. I'm your ever-lovin' degenerate ringmaster, Doug M. Not too much news to report from Japan, but I've got a load of results from matches from all over Japan from this past weekend. I also want to make a few comments on the new Randy Savage cd, the late Brian Pillman, and get in a few cheap plugs while I can. So, let's get this party started with:
NEWS:
As I said, it's been a little quiet on the news front. But there is a little. From the DDT promotion, it has been announced that the 10/11 show at the Jiyugaoka Festival will feature a match for the new "Jiyugaoka Cup" between Sanshiro Takagi, Etsuko Mita, and a person yet to be announced versus Shoichi Ichimiya, Futoshi Miwa, & Kaori Yoneyama.
Yesterday - 10/05 - marked the 19th anniversary of the professionial wrestling debuts of two Japanese legends - Masa Chono (who will be wrestling Hulk Hogan on 10/13 at the Tokyo Dome event - and the debut of Keiji Muto - better known as The Great Muta. Congrats to these two guys on their legendary careers thus far.

SAVAGE BOMBS

A few days ago in Treasure Island, FL - the Macho Man Randy Savage performed to promote his new CD - being released tommorow. Well, just three songs into the set - the CD began to skip, and Savage - who was lypsyncing - was pretty much booed off the stage. He finally threw down the mic and stalked off the stage after being unable to regain control of the merciless crowd.

Well, Savage made the mistake of trying to mime the words instead of singing/rapping live and paid the price. He would have done better to do like the majority of rap acts and just pre-record the background and done the vocals live. It wouldn't be as sharp, but it would avoid such PR bombs as this one.

That being said, I still am looking forward to hearing this new CD in it's entirety. I've heard the track about Hogan and it is quite impressive. It's on sale in record stores near you starting tommorow - so go out and give it a listen. I know I am.

ANNIVERSERY OF BRIAN PILLMAN'S DEATH.

On 10/5/97 - Flying Brian Pillman was found dead in his motel room in Bloomington, MN. He had wrestled his last match the night before when he lost at a house show to Goldust.

Brian was a helluva performer and from all I've heard, a great person away from the ring as well. His death left a big void in the world of wrestling that has never been and never can be filled. It's been 6 years, but Brian - you're still missed. Everyone needs to have a few seconds of silence and flash the 4 fingers in the air in honor of wrestlings "Loose Cannon". RIP - Brian..We love ya & miss ya!!

CHEAP PLUGS:

A quick mention of a couple of sights that I've really been impressed with. For all the HBK fans out there - and even for those who aren't - go check out Kitty's HBK sight - www.HeartbreakHeaven.com. It's one of the best fan sites on the web today and Kitty (a fellow DXSI degenerate of mine) has really outdone herself.

Also - if you're interested in joining the best wrestling chat group at Yahoo - DXSI Suck It!! - give me a holler and I'll hook you up. If you give us a chance - you'll be hooked. I promise. OK - and now that I've done my butt-kissing for the day - It's time to move on to :
