Tossing Salt - Wrestling from the Land of the Rising Sun 9/30/03

What up. As most of my fellow DXer's know, I do a little bit of stuff occasionally over at the Wrestling Informer.net (cheap plug) -.. Well, I've been covering the stuff over in Japan for a little while, mainly because no one else was. Finally, after talking to Brad Casey, my boss at the Informer, it's all been put in column form, so now along with the Sunday Night Heat recap - I have what will hopefully be a regular column - called "Tossing Salt - Wrestling from the Land of the Rising Sun!" This is my debut column and I want some feedback from all my fellow degenerates and the fine folks at Hardy Central too! So be honest and tell me what ya think! (But if you think it sucks, don't be too honest! I can't handle rejection!) Thanks in advance for the feedback. I really do appreciate it.

Tossing Salt - Wrestling from the Land of the Rising Sun. 9/30/03

What up all and welcome to the debut of "Tossing Salt!" It's generally just what the title says - a recap of wrestling news and match results from the land of sushi, saki, Godzilla, and the best wrestling in the world, Japan. I'm Doug Maynard, better known as that crazy bastard that recaps Heat every Sunday night. I've always had a great fascination with the wrestling in Japan and the Japanese culture as a whole. (Want to hear me say "Goodbye beer" in Japanese?) 4 years of college, two years of Spanish in high school, anda year of Latin - and that's what it all comes down to - "Goodbye beer" in the one language I never studied. But you see, there was this girl, Nobuko, and ...No! This is neither the time nor the place. (Maybe later.) This is the Wrestling Informer and I've already rambled way too long. I tend to do that sometimes! Thank God for editors, right! Let's get this bad mama-jama moving and talk wrestling.

Today is a very important date in Japanese Wrestling history as it marks the anniversary of the professional wrestling debuts of two legends - Antonio Inoki and Giant Baba.

Both men debuted (on the same show, ironically enough) on September 30, 1960. And both would go on to change the course of wrestling history forever. And now..

News:

In a story related to the debut of Giant Baba, a new beer is being released today in Japan in his honor and memory. It is called "16-mon CHOP" and will be available to the public.

Yoshiaki Yatsu, who was one of the original founders of World Japan Pro Wrestling (along with Riki Choysu & Katsuji Nagashima) will not be renewing his contract and is leaving the company. Yatsu has been out because of injury for some time now, but has considerable influence behind the scenes at World Japan. No word on the official reason for his departure.

American wrestling stars Juventud Guerrera (currently in TNA), former ECW stand-out Scorpio, and American indies star Michael Modest (who also worked in WCW) are all scheduled to take part in a NOAH tour taking place all throughout the month of October.

Well, that's it for now. Thanks for reading! I'll be back, probably tommorow with more of "Tossing Salt - Wrestling News from the Land of the Rising Sun", plus look for me on Sunday Night with the "exclusive" Wrestling Informer Heat Report and probably on Monday Night, filling in and covering RAW as well.

Any questions, comments, or anything else - talk to me! I can be reached at either DougMaynard@wrestlinginformer.net or at Doug28352@yahoo.com. I look forward to hearing what ya'll think - and don't limit it to just Japanese wrestling or the WWE. I've been a fan for over 20 plus years and always love to talk wrestling - any wrestling.

If you get a chance - go see THE RUNDOWN - starring the Rock and Seann William Scott. I know with all the hype, it's getting a little worrisome, but I got a chance to see it yesterday, and it is, (to paraphrase the Game) - "that damn good!! You won't regret it. Well, it's time for me to go! Sayanora & remember always, that GODZILLA RULES! Later. -Doug M.
