Tossing Salt - Japanese News: October 13, 2003

Tossing Salt - Japanese News - 10/13/03

HOGAN defeats CHONO, ATTACKED BY JARRETT AT PRESS CONFERENCE..

That pretty much says it all right there. What up, Informants? I'm Doug M. and this is the latest edition of "Tossing Salt - Wrestling From the Land of the Rising Sun". Today is Monday, October 13, 2003 and it is a day that will live in infamy as Hulkamania has risen once more.

Hulk Hogan, accompanied by manager Jimmy Hart faced Masa Chono last night at Super Crush II, the New Japan super-card at the Tokyo Dome. I have all the results from this card a little later on, but in the co-main event - the one that everyone was watching, Hulk Hogan reached deep into his bags of tricks and using an "axe-bomber", defeated Masa Chono in 18:40. Now as per the pre-match stipulations, Chono has given up all his matchmaking and booking duties in New Japan and ceded them to the Hulkster. A big night in wrestling history, to be sure.. but then, just when you think you've seen it all - whammo - here is Jeff Jarrett.

According to the TNA website, Hogan was speaking to reporters about his victory over Chono, and mentioned he has some unfinished business in the states as well, the NWA championship. (The one world title he has never held!) Well, Jarrett busts on to the scene and attacks Hogan - leaving him a bloody mess. And once he finished, Jarrett taunted Hogan by saying "I heard the rumors that you wanted to come to TNA....Well, TNA has come to you!".

This is obviously setting up an angle for a proposed Jarrett/Hogan match at the upcoming 3 hour TNA Sunday night PPV. So, we can expect to see Hogan in TNA feuding with Jeff Jarrett, plus I expect some future dates with New Japan as well, seeing as how he is the new "booker" for the promotion. Just like a Pheonix rising from the ashes, Hulkamania lives once again.

Here are the match results from the Tokyo Dome show last night by New Japan.

OTHER NEWS:

Michinoku Pro Wrestling will be holding it's official 10th Anniversary show on 11/02 at the Tokyo Ariake Coluseum.

Speaking of anniversery's, NOAH will be holding a 40th Anniversery Memorial show in honor of Rikidozan on 12/11 at Kurakuen Hall
NOAH has also announced that they have officially linked with an independant promotion in South Korea and will be sending some of their wrestlers to Seoul for a big show sometime near the end of the year.

The WWE Smackdown brand wrapped up their "Passport to Pain" tour last night in Manchester, England. The match results are posted elsewhere here at the Informer. But it appears that the WWE superstars had a great time, and really put on some fantastic shows. Last night's show saw Matt Hardy in total baby-face routine, and the fans loving it, plus the reformation of the World's Greatest Tag Team as Shelton Benjamin made hi s return to the ring as they teamed up to defeat Kidman & Funaki. The WWE superstars are traveling back to the states today, and will be in Cincinatti, OH tommorow night for a big Smackdown TV taping.

A shout out to Mike "the bacon shooter" McHale - a very astute Wrestling Informer reader who was kind enough to point out to me that I screwed up. A few weeks ago, when talking about Blender Magazines list of the Worst entertainers - I mistakenly listed Vanilla Ice (John Cena's favorite rapper) as # 6, when he was, in fact #8. So, instead of only having five performers with worse acts than his, he actually has seven. I know that's a relief to him.

But still reigning strong at # 1 are the former WWF and WCW superstars, the Insane Clown Posse. Thanks again Mike, for letting me know about my error. I'd send you something to say thanks, but being a web site columnist is a very low (meaning no) paying job, so you'll have to settle for my sincere thanks.

Bobby Heenan Quote of the Day:
"You know they say money can't buy happiness. Give me fifty bucks and watch me smile" - Bobby "The Brain" Heenan

You know, I just had a thought as I typed in the Bobby Heenan quote above. Wouldn't it be great to hear Bpbby Hennan on commentary somewhere right now talking about the return of Hulk Hogan and Hulkamania? I'm getting a smile on my face just thinking about it.

Well, that does it for this edition of "Tossing Salt". I've got more match results for you, but I'm a little pressed for time. (Time for dinner and some quality time with the other half before RAW tonite!) So, I'll post the rest of the match results a little later tonite, or I may just wait until tommorow when I have more news to go along with them. Because I have a feeling, with the Jarrett/Hogan TNA situation - news is going to be coming and coming fast. My question is: How is Hogan going to handle his New Japan duties as "booker" while battling Jeff Jarrett in TNA? I guess on that, we'll all just have to wait and see.

Well, I'll be back later tonite with the Monday Night RAW recap - and maybe some more "Tossing Salt" as well. Guess we have to see how that goes. So, until next time, I'm Doug M. - this is the Wrestling Informer and you've been salted. (I really need to work on that closing tag-line!).

Here's one more classic line by the great Bobby Heenan to finish things out - "The big guy doesn't always win. The smart guy doesn't always win, but the big smart guy sometimes beats the small smart guy and sometimes the small quick guy beats the big slow guy and sometimes the quick dumb guy beats the slow smart guy...

-Bobby "The Brain" Heenan

Wow! No one says it like the Brain. Later all..
